Main Comic on Hiatus, Prequel Novel Running

I guess when news falls off the main page, people wonder what's going on with the comic. Xin's mom passed away, and the
main comic is on hiatus while she works her way through the life adjustments and pain that brings. There will be 1 more issue
comprising Book 2, and that will run sometime in 2012. In the meantime, I am writing and posting a full-length prequel novel, with
occasional illustrations as Xin can manage. This may continue into March or April or even into the summer. We'll see how it goes,
and as far as I am concerned, Xin can take as long as she needs before she's ready to return. Thanks for understanding.

Book 2 – Issue 1, now Available for Pre-Order, and brief update hiatus

Well, that's it for Issue 1: Meet the Jetstones. Somehow, instead of a 25-page comic book, we've got about 60 pages counting the 33 comics and the text updates. As mentioned before, this will be available in print soon. We're going with a nice perfect-bound format with a big color cover and color glossy pages inside. This is a sneak preview of the cover art:

This is now available for pre-order! Why should you pre-order? Well, because Xin and I will sign all the pre-orders. Once we have the books in hand, future orders will not be signed.

Why should you order the book at all? Well, we kind of need you to. We don't actually know how many to make.

And more importantly, Xin's compensation amounts to "half of all profits from whatever she illustrates." Jamie and I knew we'd have to go for a long time making Erfworld before we saw any money coming in, but it's hard to ask Xin to keep at this grueling pace when the completion of Book 2 is so far off. It will help the sustainability of Erfworld a whole lot if you will pre-order a copy right now.

Also, I am off to Orlando for OASIS 23 this holiday weekend, as Filk GoH. I will be announcing a really cool side project there, which I will post about when I return.

However, this means Xin and I are going to take a break of 2 weeks or so, to regroup and take care of life stuff and generally relax. There's a lot of work ahead of us. Issue 2 will be the best stuff yet. So we need a short breather.

Watch this space.

EDIT: Lots of people have asked about Book 1. Short version is that we got sidetracked by an offer from a major publisher for a while, but a deal never materialized. So Giant in the Playground will be publishing the book after all. There's a lot of prep-work still to be done (relettering the whole book for print) so expect to see it available in September or October. We will take pre-orders at some point over the summer. We will have some kind of very nice incentive for pre-ordering.
