Struggling with the Dylan & Thomas story

Just a note as to what's happening with Dylan & Thomas. I've had a pretty strong plot outline since before I began (which I worked out in IM with the backer), but for some reason this story is just not clicking yet for me. The problem is that I'm trying to write a shorter story this time, like Lord Crush was, but I don't have the real estate to let these characters grow into their own.

So I'll keep at it, but it's a much lower priority for me than Book 3. We'll get it going again fairly soon and hopefully breeze right through it.

All's OK! I'm more interested on the Book 3 story anyway. It's getting interesting. cool

Too bad, but all in all it's fine by me. After Crush, Digdoug and Forecastle, Dylan looks like yet another doormat anyway. The stories are all fine by themselves, but I'd really like to see one main character who doesn't get humiliated pretty much all the way through the story for a change. Maybe the backers are afraid of being accused of having a Gary Stu character and thus aim for the opposite end of the character range? This tends to give those stories sad and lonely atmospheres though. Maybe this is why it's not clicking anymore?

I wish for more cheerful characters! laughing And the protagonists should have more friends!

Well, ok, not that extreme, just, you know, not the exact opposite.

Why would you try for a shorter story? Let it grow!! Let the character's grow!! :D And tell us Erfworld details in the meanwhiles ^_^

"Why would you try for a shorter story? Let it grow!!" Let it snow! Let it flow! Let it grow!  (Youtube search:  "Let it flow" for parody)

The words shouldn't bother you anyway.

Speaking as a reader, I don't mind if you go way beyond what you expect the wordcount to be.  Granted, as an author, you may not agree with me.  ;-)

  • bladestorm

Not just an author... an author being paid per on-time update.  More wordcount means more updates, which means more paychecks.  That seems like a win-win.

As a reader and a writer, all I can say is, "Make sure you are happy with it."  For whatever form "it" takes.

So, the artist is struggling to write an epic story about an artist struggling to make an epic story? Maybe it hits too close to home innocent

Don't lose faith, and keep up the good work! So far I've only supported your various kickstarters, but when I get that new job it's probably time to join the toolbox.

Dont be a shmuck- if the story needs more space give it more space.  Its not like we're gonna complain "oh god, too much Erfworld".  :P
