Erfcraft Queen of Blades

“Awww boop.”

These were the first thoughts that came to Warlady Kerrigan’s mind when she awoke.

“I can think!” was the next thought.

She could no longer feel the overwhelming thinkamancy of the Overmind. This could only mean two things. It was dead, or she was a prisoner. She checked her stats.

Prisoner Sarah Kerrigan
Level 11 Warlady
100/100 Hits

She felt her wrist and ankles. Interesting. No chains or manacles. She must be in a cell. Who had she been fighting when she was knocked unconscious?

It all came back to her in a flash of memory. The Gamma Confederacy had attacked. Again. And this time it wasn’t some outlying colony. They had attacked one of the level 3 cities. It was the one she was in the process of buffing to a level 4.

That was one of the things that made her side special. They could upgrade any city very cheaply as long as three conditions were met.

All of the cities had to have the same signamancy as the capital Char.
There had to be a warlord present in the city for the duration of the upgrade.
They had to devote Desired Level X 10 turns of uninterrupted city production to the upgrade.
(1-2 equals 20 turns, 2-3 equals 30 turns, etc)

Once those three conditions were met, they could upgrade any city for almost 0 smuckers. This meant of course that their dirtamancers and signamancers were constantly busy with city redesign and planning.

Footsteps in the distance.

Warlady Kerrigan’s thoughts snapped back to the present. She opened her eyes to examine her cell. She quickly reviewed her options. The cell was so small she could barely move. It felt more like a being in one of those glass tubes used by their healomancer than a jail cell.

This had the feel of one of Mengsk’s cells. So she must still be dealing with the Gamma Confederacy. Good. That meant there was no chance of running into Lord Raynor. Ever since Lord Raynor found that barbarian capital site and founded the side R Raiders there had been no peace between the Raiders and the Confederacy.

Footsteps coming closer.

Focus.

She didn’t have the space to move. That decreased her odds of escape. She did still have her arm blades though. When she had been forced into the cocoon by the Overlord, she had wondered if the blades would still be there if she were captured. Now if only she could figure out how to use them. They would increase her odds of escape and help her hunt on the way back home.

Emperor Mengsk walked into view. That arrogant prick. It didn’t matter to Warlady Kerrigan that he had founded the Three Terran Empires. The Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Confederacies. It didn’t matter that he was a feared warlord and master tactician in his own right. All that mattered was that 1,500 turns ago he had left her to die on the battlefield in order to see what would happen to her. He had let the Overmind capture her, torture her, and finally turn her in that titans booped cocoon. All that mattered to Warlady Kerrigan of Side Zerg, was that Emepror Mengsk died. Horribly if possible.

“Lady Kerrigan,” Mengsk sneared, “What have those fiends done to you?”

“Go to Hellabad Mengsk!” Kerrigan spat.

“Was it a three caster link-up or four that turned you into this?” Mengsk wondered aloud.

“A perfect warlady. One who is vicious, strong, fast, heals hitpoints, and is always armed.”

Mengsk rushed forward and pounded on the glass of Kerrigan’s cell.

“How did they create you?” He demanded.

Lady Kerrigan didn’t answer. But she knew. It took most of the disciplines of magic to do it. 8 casters to make her into this thing, the Queen of Blades.

A two caster link-up of Dirtamancy and Carnymancy to create her special cell.

A findamancer and thinkamancer to find the shape and bind it to her strings so she would know all her powers.

A weirdomancy and turnamancy spell to turn her and give her the specials.

Finally a three caster link-up of Healomancy, Dollamancy, and Changemancy to bring out all the changes cast on her; bind the shape of her stings to her body, create her arm-blades and spines, and change her shape.

She was a monster. The Titans never meant for someone like her to exist. She broke every rule of Erf there was. Her hits healed at a constant (if slow) rate. She had the specials of fly, armed, warlord, ranged and heavy. Her signamancy was a wreck of fused limbs, swords and spines. She was a monster, and she loved every moment of it. She had so much power. She was almost unstoppable. It had taken a master flower power spell to incapacitate her long enough to be captured. Even then she woke up before the end of Gamma’s turn.

“Answer Me!!!” Mengsk yelled.

Lady Kerrigan smiled. “Isn’t this what you wanted?” she purred. “To see what a depraved side like the Zerg could do with 8 casters and level 10 warlady? You and I both know they can’t pop warlords for some reason. They can only pop casters and natural allies. I think it’s because the Overmind was a thinkamancer and the Great Minds did something to him. What do you think Mengsk?”

“I don’t care about what might have happened to the Overmind! I want to make more of you.” Mengsk growled.

Lady Kerrigan laughed. “No. No you don’t Mengsk.”

Warlady Sarah Kerrigan slammed her head into the front of her cell. It was only glass after all. And she was a Heavy Unit. Her cell shattered. Two seconds later, Mengsk was dying. He had one of Kerrigan’s blades protruding from his back.

“Magnificent” he breathed as his eyes X’d over.

The whole side froze. Odd. Because the Zerg’s intel stated that Mengsk had two heirs.

Two heirs.

Only Two Heirs.

That meant that the entire Gamma Confederacy had just ended. Alpha and Beta were still a threat but there was a whole side between the Zerg and them. Kerrigan had just single handedly ended a side, while a prisoner. So what happens now? She wondered. As far as she knew such a thing had never happened before. A prisoner had never ended a side before. She checked her stats.

Upkeep 1000 Smuckers.

That meant she was free. She couldn’t sense the Overmind. He/It no longer controlled her.

1000 Smuckers.

She would disband soon. She looked around the dungeon she was in. It was empty except for her and the dead body of Mengsk.

She began to explore the city she was in. After a few hours of searching through the frozen city, she found the throne room. Beside the throne was the most interesting thing she had seen since she was captured. A portal. This was the capital city. That fool had brought her to the capital city! All she had to do was claim the city to found a side. But did she dare? She was a monster. A unit type never meant to exist. What would the signamancy of her city be? What kind of units would she pop? What would an heir look like?

1000 Smuckers.

She was too far from R Raiders to turn to Jim’s side.

She refused to go back to the Overmind.

She could hunt for her upkeep but the odds of that were against her as the city was surrounded by plains hexes.

Her only choice was to found a new side and hope the Titans would forgive the evil she was about to unleash on the world.

I wrote this to answer a question. What would happen to the prisoners if a side ended with no heir. I think this answer is the most interesting and logical. If a side ends, all the units disband and the city becomes Barbarian/Neutral. I think prisoners would become barbarians. They would then be trapped in their cell as  barbarians. This also explains why we don't see sides founded by prisoners. They die in their cells of upkeep drain. Kerrigan was able to escape and kill the side at the same time. Hope you enjoyed. Im not sure if creation of Kerrigan is right. Thoughts on how she was changed into the queen of blades?

If a side ends, Prisoners become barbarians. Sure that is quite sensical :)

What you could improve in your story is add a fight scene at the end, where all the remaining units in the city charge the barbarian, since we already know that when a side end, units inside cities don't disband.

    > Thoughts on how she was changed into the queen of blades?

Every link-up requires a thinkamancer. The only dual-link-up possible is a thinkamancer-other link. So of the three link-ups you mention ...

    > A two caster link-up of Dirtamancy and Carnymancy to create her special cell.

That works as a three-caster link, if you add a thinkamancer.

    > A findamancer and thinkamancer to find the shape and bind it to her strings so she would know all her powers.

    Absolutely fine by canon.

    > A weirdomancy and turnamancy spell to turn her and give her the specials.

Could be a three caster link with that same thinkamancer.

    > Finally a three caster link-up of Healomancy, Dollamancy, and Changemancy

Add the required thinkamancer, and you have four casters, which is either impossible or very very very hard. The only caster link we have seen with more than three casters is the kind that links only thinkamancers, and only the Great Minds That Think Alike can do that, so far as we know.

Maybe this "Overmind" is a master-class thinkamancer/ruler who serves as the required thinkamancer in these links. But the link with four casters is still highly unlikely to fit our current understanding of canon.

Cool story though! Have a tip.

@ Cayzle: Perhaps the Overmind has some grade of Changemancy?

  • Drone40000

Wow thanks I honestly didn't think anyone would read.

@WurmD I forgot that units in the city don't de-pop. I'll have to work on a battle scene so we can see she can do.

@Cayzle good call on the thinkamancer. I'll have to update. I think because how the side is going to function, link ups would be easier because the zerg are all are forced to think alike. That's why the Terrans hate them so much.

@Deck of Cards I don't really understand changemancy. Can you explain?

I feel like i could do her change with less casters but I'm not sure how. She's pulled from Starcraft so I want to maintain her powers still play by the erf rulebook.

    Just as a theory:

If no units in the side were warlords and the garrison was behind a closed door they couldn't enter to change the side back resulting in the escaped barbarian warlord's free movement thru the entire area.

  • danixdefcon5

Kerrigan as an Erfworld unit. This is ... interesting!

So her own side would be ended due to the lack of a heir, or because the heir was a prisoner when the Overlord was croaked?

  • tadthornhill

This has soooo much potential. Take 5!

My first thought of how to make the overclocked link work is just to sacrifice them all when the spell is over. Who cares about losing a caster or three to backlash. This is the Zerg overmind after all, no regard for individual life. Plus, if they don't pop warlords, they have extra casters anyway.

  • decius

Wouldn't she repatriate? Or can prisoners choose to become barbarians on escape?

  • Imkadro

She would have to stack with a friendly unit to be repatriated.

  • Imkadro

Also, THAT'S IT!? What happens next!?

Can we see the picture that represents this fanfic somehow? Kinda curious to see it.

Super awesome. Conflicts with cannon on links need to be resolved and you could probably use a re-read of pages dealing with prisoners and how ruler croaking works but super dope otherwise. Would love to see where you go with this. The Queen of Blades is an incredible character to fit into the Erfworldworld.

    Interesting Story.

Book 0 has the prisoner repatriating if the side capturing them ends, though. So she presumably goes barbarian.

  • Drone40000

    Thanks everyone! Thank you Rob!

@C9H20 Dude if I had any skill at drawing I would have come up with something. In my head she looks like a cross between Queen of Blades and Jillian in her Ruler armor that has been heavily stained and damaged due to the magic done to her. I just have like no artistic talent.

@DunkelMentat (Is that a Dune reference in your tag? AWESOME) I know the link up is wrong just haven't had time to fix... When I looked over the ruler prisoner pages I couldn't find anything that would apply to this situation or what happens to prisoners on a ruler death (without an heir).

The way I see it, goes something like this:

(acording to Book 0, I think)An escaped prisoner(basically a barbarian with some additional - no juice - limitations) can be repatriated by:

1- Stacking with an unit from his/her side or allied unit

2- Entering a city from his/her side or allied side. (By claiming a city, you are in city from your side and therefor repatriated)

3- Freed by the side that captured you.

The question remains. What happens to a prisoner of a Side(captor) that ceases to exist?

    Options Are:

1- City Freezes and you freeze with it (if you are still a prisoner) until someone interacts with it.

2- City goes neutral and active, because you are interacting with it. Again, escaped prisoner or freed unit. If you leave the city it could be frozen again. Althought any commander could found a side if the city is a capital.

If you are an scaped prisoner from a side that no longer exist my guess is that you get freed. As to why: Because there is no longer a string connecting captor(Ruler) to prisoner (See repatriation of decrypted archon)

If you get freed and your loyalty is low, zero or negative I Would believe you can turn barbarian/defect (if there are no other effects holding you).

    >Every link-up requires a thinkamancer. The only dual-link-up possible is a thinkamancer-other link. So of the three link-ups you mention ...

Every linkup, but not all multi discipline casting. Summon perfect warlord is findamancy/predictamancy, no thinkamancy needed.
Three way links are probably just a quick and dangerous or more importantly continuous way rather than making scrolls.

  • locksheer

I would like to add while officially there is only one class that can do link-ups.  That does not mean there is actually only one class who can do link-ups.  I can think of at least a few others who could theoretically form a link.  Carnymancers should be able to create links by breaking the linking rules.  Also I would think that Rhymamancers could emulate links.  Also you could probably use a dittomancer to ditto a link.  And I wouldn't put links past hippimancers through their usage of mind altering substances.

  • locksheer

"Finally a three caster link-up of Healomancy, Dollamancy, and Changemancy to bring out all the changes cast on her; bind the shape of her stings to her body, create her arm-blades and spines, and change her shape."

I don't actually think a dollamancer is necessary for this.  Nor really even a link.  Simply a healomancer and a changemancer working in tandem.  The changamancer changing karrigan form with a healomancer keeping her alive should be all you need.

  • Miryafa

I came here to see the rest of the picture that links to this story on the front page, but it's nowhere to be found :(

  • Drone40000

Sorry @Miryafa. I'm not sure where the picture came from. Wish I knew though.

  • Drone40000

Looks like it came from here. All credit to whoever the real artist is. I did NOT draw this but it is hella dope.

If the city goes gray (barbarian) wouldn't the units within it just go to that new barbarian side? Built in garrison, so no one can just roll in for free cities.
