Chickpea

By Cactuar Comments (80) (Tipped by 192 people!)

Seized with a powerful urge to waste all of my time juice yesterday, I decided to try some dollamancy! Hadn't crocheted in forever, so it was pretty fun making this little guy. I was freehanding, but I might try my hand at maybe refining and transcribing a pattern. (ETA: Timelapsed Video of making Chickpea)

    What Isben said.

This was amazing. It's my first time tipping someone, and it's hugely deserved!

As for PurpleRed's (hopefully) light-hearted creepiness... I feel like they didn't pay attention to the pages of "discussion" that somehow still continues.

    Arkin' awesome.  Master-class speed dollamancy!

  • wlssenatus

I just donated half my schmuckers for such a worthy work as this.  I guess it took you two days?  I think I noted two different dresses.  Well done!  And Rob, if you're reading this - I don't know if fan works can change your mind, but at least either Tondy or Chickpea must survive to be seen in a future segment, IMO!

  • Knott

    wow...

Your Dollamancy is so good you made it look easy. Its always a delight to see a Master at work.

You don't have to be a predictamancer to see the likelyhood of this Chickpea being able to ride on an armoured, decrypted, red Dwagon in the not so far future...

OMG! This is so cute!!! Love the time-lapse as well, very instructive!

If I had schmuckers, they would be yours!!!

It's the little things which make a difference sometimes:

  • Lipkin

If I had to guess, I'd wager someone just won themselves a dwagon plushie.

Don't like to be picky, but for strict accuracy you really need to show a bit of cleavage. Just saying.

PurpleRed, I know you meant it with a wink to archons and the source picture, but it's not cool to tell a woman that she needs to show more cleavage. Please don't do it.

Isben, you are right of course. However I felt this was a rare occasion where artistic accuracy meets great skin tone and felt compelled to bring the subject up. innocent

  • Timaoh

I have nothing clever to say.... so here's some schmuckers!

  • ArtyD

If Cactuar hasn't checked their schmuker wallet since last week we're going to get one crazy reaction response.

  • AaronWP

    That is so adorable!!

PurpleRed needs to get banned for his outstanding contributions to this thread.

PurpleRed, there is no rare occasion, special case, or halo-emoji that excuses harassment. I gave you the benefit of the doubt, but now you're doubling down by saying it's Cactuar's fault for not meeting your requirement's of artistic accuracy AND displaying skin you find attractive. By saying you were compelled, you're saying your sexyfeels have overridden your ability to control your fingers on a keyboard.

    Stop.

+1. Not cool. You may feel it's just a light-hearted joke, but this is harassment, and it's the sort of thing that turns good people away

Manipulating Strings and Stuff directly, like a Titan!

In my Book of Headcanon, any Dollamancy that involves Stitchmancy now has the casters' hands using juice to turn into a blaze of speed like this.

And finally, I would say Bat 11 is in SERIOUS danger of being dethroned as Best Loved Tiny Cute Character by Chickpea.

!!!! surprisedembarassed Omigosh, guys!  I'm completely floored by everyone's* wonderful comments and also enough shmuckers to swim in probably. >_< Thank you all so so much for all the tips and positive responses!

Sorry I haven't been around to respond all day, I had some deadline crunch to take care of (probably should have done more work and less dollamancy before but I have no regrets!)

    Sooo replies:

@ Xarx - Maybe I will attempt a Bat 11 later, certainly much potential for adorable! I can't make promises, though, life is crazy sometimes.

@ cu - Yep, food items are the best! There are a few sunny side up eggs and bunches of grapes sitting in a box somewhere in the attic back home. (And that gif is great!)

@ HighJumper - It took about five and a half hours overall, with disproportionately a lot of time being spent wresting with that damn wireeeee. I took some breaks in between working to run to the store for stuff I forgot to get the first time and also to buy delicious foodstuffs. The working time and details about the materials are listed in the YouTube description if you're interested. :)

I actually went back and forth on scale. Working smaller/with thicker yarn would have been closer to the stitches in the picture, but it would have been more difficult to do thin details like the legs, and (I thought) probably wouldn't have looked as "nice" overall. I was still worried, so I'm glad to hear it worked out to be accurate, relatively speaking!

@ Keybounce's first post - The video actually is a youtube link! It just auto-embedded when I made the post. I don't think I can force it to display as a link, but you should be able to get to youtube from a link in the embedded video... I think.

@ Keybouce's second post - You know, I don't think there is an edit button!

    @ Isben - Thanks. :)

@ Wissenatus - Yep, I did a few hours after work the day the page posted and finished it the next day. Also from my vantage point here in the future it seems that Tondy's fate was already sealed when you posted that cry. But I still believe she will rise again! (please please please)

Wow. That is eggzactly* the sort of thing that I find inspiring, crafty work !.

*Sorry if I am simply repeating someones pun there, I usually lay an egg when I try this sort of thing.

  • Malkyto

I have seen a 9:00 minutes video of crotchet, and didn't regret. What kind of 'mancy is this???

    Congrats, Cactuar!!! An amazing job!!!

  • SomeGuyWhoWanderedIn

    Simply amazing!

In non-timelapse time, how long did it take?

I'm thoroughly impressed, I watched the whole thing and I can't believe how good you are at this. All of that without a pattern to start with? Incredible!

  • bensans

some kind folks gave me scmuckers in answer to my post above, as promised, they are now your schmuckers! Keep doing amazing dollamancy and thanks again to the very generous and kindhearted people who gave me the schmuckers!

  • FrankHarr (Tipped by 1 person!)

    That is AWESOME!

I wish I had the shmuckers to tip.

So cool - totally impressed! Can you make other Erf things?

  • PaintCaster

@Catuar  - very impressed. This is sooo funny.
I learned crocheting once, but was quickly frustrated with the slowness of it.
Sewing and metalwork turned out to be my thing.

    @the dicussion around Isben.
    Good god!
Yes -  telling a woman you dont have a rapport with just to "show more cleavage" is surely not a good thing to do.
But crying sexual harassment here, really?

I did have the same exact thought!
The foto and the source-pic right next to each othe evoke that thought so very strongly.
I guess hundreds and thousands of people did.
It might have been nice to take the similarity one step further an put on an evening dress with a plunging neckline.

And that is what Isben said.
He did not say "hey darlin, show more skin!" he said "for strict accuray you need to show more cleavage" - And yes, a "would" in the mix would have ronded that sentence out well.
But this is not sexual harassment, this is saying "I see what you did with the two pictures, clever, it would have been more accurate with different clothing on you" - at least thats the way I read it.

Really, I definitely am no sexist and disapprove of machismo in workspace and private life. Raise my voice against it regularly.
But tagging this comment as a crime, namely sexual harassment, really goes waaay over board. Get a grip.
