Prediction of the Final Turn

By Crisis21 Comments (11) (Tipped by 25 people!)

A long, long time from now
I can still see how that music always makes us smile
And I know if we get the chance
That we would all join the dance
And maybe we'll be happy for a while

But then a turn that makes us shiver
With every message we deliver
Bad news will stop the groove
It feels like we're out of Move

I don't know if I'll cry
When I see the signs across the sky
But we'll all be left wondering why
The turn the music dies

Say bye, bye, when you taste key lime pie
March the heavies to the levee when the levee is dry
And the good warlords are drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the turn that I die
This'll be the turn that I die

Will you write the Book of Love
And do you have faith in Titans above
If the Scriptures tell you so?
And do you believe in rock and roll?
Can music save your uncroaked soul?
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Well, I know that you are both in love
'Cause I see you dance like the stars above
When you both kick off your shoes
It's time to dig those rhythm and blues

I'll be a lonely fresh-popped Date-a-mance
With a pink carnation and a fighting chance
But we'll all be out of Luckamance
The turn the music dies

When it's time to say bye, bye, 'cause you taste key lime pie
March the heavies to the levee when the levee is dry
And the good warlords are drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the turn that I die
This'll be the turn that I die

And for thousandturns we'll be on our own
While moss grows fat on the Rolling Stones
That's just not how it's supposed to be
As the jesters sing for the kings and queens
In raiment that's made by Doll Keen
And voices that'll come from you and me

And when the Royals all look down
The jesters steal their shining crowns
The courtrooms will adjourn
As no verdict is returned

And while heroes read the Book of Marks
The casters do drills in the park
And we'll sing dirges in the dark
The turn the music dies

'Cause it's time to say bye, bye, when you taste key lime pie
March the heavies to the levee when the levee is dry
And the good warlords are drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the turn that I die
This'll be the turn that I die

Helter skelter everyone take shelter
The flyers're coming down like rocks from Mt. Belter
Eight hexes high and falling fast
The armies are all felling pressed
The warlords try an advancing crest
With the jesters on the sidelines incapac'ed

Now the nighttime air is sweet perfume
While the courtiers play a marching tune
We'll all get up to dance
Oh, but we'll never get the chance

'Cause the warlords will try to take the field
But the courtiers will never yield
Will you believe what is revealed
The turn the music dies?

We'll be saying bye, bye, for we taste key lime pie
March the heavies to the levee when the levee is dry
And the good warlords are drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the turn that I die
This'll be the turn that I die

Oh, and there we'll be all in one room
All one side facing doom
With no plan left to try again
So come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack fast put out the candlestick
'Cause fire is a devil's only friend

Oh, and as we watch him take the stage
Our hands will clench in fists of rage
For no caster there can tell
How to stop that devil's spell

And as the flames burn long into the night
To create the ash in which he'll write
I See the Enemy laughing with delight
The turn the music dies

He'll be singing bye, bye, now you taste key lime pie
March the heavies to the levee when the levee is dry
And the good warlords are drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the turn that I die
This'll be the turn that I die

There'll be a gal who sings the blues
But if you ask her for some happy news
She'll just smile and turn away
I'll go down to the sacred stage
Where the music was heard in another age
But Rhymers'll say the music just can't play

And the City of Heroes keeps silent streets
As casters cry and warlords weep
But not a word is spoken
The Turn horns all lie broken

And those that we admire most
From barbarian to royal host
Will raise their glass for one last toast
The turn the music dies

And they'll be singing bye, bye, now we taste key lime pie
March the heavies to the levee when the levee is dry
And the good warlords are drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the turn that I die
This'll be the turn that I die

They'll be singing bye, bye, now we taste key lime pie
March the heavies to the levee when the levee is dry
And the good warlords are drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the turn that I die

- The Prediction of the Final Turn, the most controversial passage in the Book of Fanon being one of the few that makes use of profane Language and the only instance in all the Scriptures that so much as implies the existence of either the Unwritten Scriptures or the Enemy of the Titans.

    A long, long time ago
    I can still remember
When the music used to match the beats

And I know it would take more time
To match the metre with the rhyme
And have the people dancin' in their seats

But now the filk that fans are makin'
Just leaves my sense of rhythm achin'
    New post on the forum
    Somebody's posted more 'f 'em

I can't imagine that they tried
To fill the blanks the song supplied
I read the lyrics and I sighed
    The day the scansion died

So, why, why can't you give it a try?
Don't abuse it, ask the music, let the music reply.
You'll change the words, but please don't set them awry,
Begging, don't allow the rhythm to die
Don't allow the rhythm to die.

Which is to say: I really like the concept, and, for the most part, the execution's not bad, but with a little more effort to align the changes to match the original tune, it could have been really, really great.

    Just what the baker ordered.

...okay, yeah, maybe the meter veered a few times, and some lines mimiced the source entirely for whichever reason, but you changed enough of the lingo to make it feel Erfish. But the even-better transition was when you changed the actors but still kept the mood shifts. Despair here, vitality there -- you keeping the emotional sway meant that you went for the feels instead of the dissonant wtf that would have only worked for humorous songs.

The last verse was my absolute favorite. Everything from its line #4 to the song's end was poignant, dispirited, and thoroughly Erfish.

    I'll toast to that.

I'd like to hear this sung to the music!

American Pie is on the YouTube Karaoke channel. Go ahead and sing it. :)

Tipped the original, but also tipped Nimelennar for rhyming "forum" with "more'f'em."

Wow. I love the sorrow. There’s despair, and yet a refusal to cease to value life.

  • Crisis21

@Brother Mirtillo - Some of the lines didn't need changing all that much to fit Erfworld, and part of my intention was to 'Erf' the song while still keeping it as close to the original as I could, because Erfworld already has song lyrics being referenced all over the place, especially in Scripture.

    Love this!

American Pie has always been one of my favorites! You deserve the 5 schmuckers!

  • Coyoteiscrazy

    Inspired. laughing

Dont be afraid to revise it over time. There’s a few places that aren’t as strong as others. But very entertaining. Thanks!

  • GreySage

Crisis21's version was decent, but Nimelennar's comment deserves at least as much recognition, if not more.
