Stanley Didn't Know Foolamancer's Name?

Postby Stickman » Tue Oct 06, 2009 7:50 am

Forgive me if this has been brought up. I did a search and didn't find anything.

First, I want to say I love the comic. Rereading it three times since it started is probably why I've ever noticed this. I was just wondering if it's been brought up, if a logical explanation has been found, or if I'm just digging too deep.

It's suggested that Stanley speak the Foolamancer's name to snap him out of his insanity. The last line says "Stanley does not recall it."

Earlier on, Parson got his 3D glasses for breakfast.

On Parson's Klog 4: http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/?px=%2F040a.jpg

We're told that the classes allow him to see "what every other warlord and caster can see naturally... unit stats."

On page 18: http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/?px=%2F018.jpg

Stanley "can't see [Parson's] points" indicating that he can normally see people's stats.

On page 108: http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/?px=%2F108.jpg

Through a thinkagram, with his 3D glasses, Parson sees Jack Snipe's stats.

The only things that makes sense that I can think of are:
-Other people don't see names (meaning the glasses rock)
-While away from the town Stanley can't see people's numbers.

Was the solution to this pointed out somewhere and I didn't notice?

Thanks to any thinkers out there that retained more info than I and can figure this out.

i think the points been brought up before in the comic (to fix that mistake would be my guess) i think parson is getting some extra information that would be considered obvious or unnecesary to everyone else. for convenience sake he can see names. he's unlikley to have been introduced and he hasn't properly learned thinkamacy ordering at that point or even now we assume. so knowing a units name would assist in giving orders if you couldn't do it by thought.

i just can't remember where i heard the first part though

ahh hits. that would be our "action points" that's another reason turns can't last forever.

When Parson contacts Jack, he is even surprised that he can see the name. He says "Jack ... Snipe" as he ends up having more info than just the first name that Wanda provided.

The scene where he spots Jack's stats came across to me as if the 'name' field only appeared when part of it was already known to him. Maybe before learning a unit's name it only shows 'Foolamancer', 'Troll' or 'Stabber'.
