Well, I don't really have any social skills, so no. I think irony means something like stabbing someone in the back, and then saying "I didn't stab him".
But I was serious, but should have made my assumptions clearer. I did not have the great war in mind, but the 30 years war
(that was also an religions war, btw). At that time, the most brutal and bloodiest war in the western world, that shattered imperial Germany and cemented France' status as hegemony power in continental Europe for the next 160 years. But neither Ming & Quing china, the Moghul empire or the Iroqui Confederation cared or were affected (at least not for the next 2 or 3 generations). Even the Russians didn't care much, because they were busy fighting the Crimean Tartars and expanding into Siberia.
Another example would be the African World War
. Pretty bloody thing, with about 1/3 as many dead as WWI. I hope we can agree that that one didn't have much affection on the Americas, Europe, Asia or Australia. Which is interesting, because that war ended less than a decade ago.
Let my make this example: Say you're the king of New Yowk, a side that has split of from Jetstone many turns ago. Then you hear that most of the RCC's troops were destroyed with one giant dirtamancy trap in one action, and now GK takes back it's cities. That's strange, but as long as the don't make portable volcanos, you're not really affected. And the fortunes of war do turn often. Then they tell you that another arkentool was attuned to, and that they say they plan to take over the world with super uncroaked. But desperate people tell desperate stories, so you don't care. Suck's to be them. But you may study the Scriptures more closely. Also you're more concerned with those annoying New Jewseys that keep showing up near your capital, than a side a thousand hexes away you never had any contact to.
But say, you hear that Charley just captured 10 capitals in one turn. And that's something you care about, because archons regularly fly trough your territory, you hired them before and you communicated important tactical information via Charley's thinkamancy service. And you know your neighbours think the same way. And there are now dozens of neutral cities that need capturing, before Charley can consolidate his empire.
I love uncroaked Dora. I love an anonymous friend even more.
