So we're waiting on me for turn 2 eh? Well, I'm going to take an early gamble here and hope it doesn't blow up in my face.

Also, because I'm fair, I won't immediately take 2 turns in a row, but I will wait a maximum 12 hours from the time of this post because what I just did is stupid and a-moral. (I waited till geefresh went until I posted, then if I lost (1/3 of a 6 man army is 2 and he has 2 defending units), I planned to post ahead of him with a back up flier in order to take his undefended capital on turn 3 with a flier or cavalry unit before he went. Can it happen in erfworld? Yes. But since I'm the last to go on turn 2, being the first to go on turn 3 makes this into a stupid way to easily conquer Geefresh. This was all done to promote appropriate turn sequence, but I can't but help feel it'd be no fun for geefresh for me to do so.)

If I win Geefresh, I apologize for being anti-fun.

130 from cities + 17 (last turn's end) = 147

Upgrade Telvazeen to lvl 4 (cost: 70 schmuckers)

New Units: 1 flying in d7 and d8 1 infantry in e9 and f8

pay upkeep (72, remaining: 5)

Develop-a-mancy:
Telvaboats 2/(2 turn) on all cavalry in hex e7
Leaf on the Wind 3/x (will count in a sec, want to get my turn done)

Movement
4 cav in From e7 > to d6> ending c5
1 flier in from d8> to d7> to d6> ending c5
1 flier in from d7> to d6> ending c5
1 flier in from d8> to d7> to d6> ending c5
1 flier in from f8> to d8> to e7> ending d6

And actually, before I can post my end of turn report, I need to know, if I capture a Capital do I capture its cities too?

Also my cavalry will soak up those 3 hits leaving me with 1 cav and 2 fliers.

Wow, one person dead already? Balance issues much?

Also, I STILL HAVE NO FREAKING CLUE WHERE YOU ALL ARE GETTING THE FREAKING RANDOM NUMBER FROM!!!

Give me a formula, something!!

Edit: And stop telling em "from the U time" shut up. I know that. WHERE in the U time? Do I add numbers together? Do I average, mean, mode, mdeian, pick the first number, wtf?!

Someoen find a dice roller that isn't blocked by work, or I'm just gonna grab a real d10 and post what I role and you'll have to accept it.

Crovius,
have you downloaded the spreadsheet?
If so, the random number is calculated in that, automatically, on the combat page.
If you are having an issue with downloading the spreadsheet, let me know, and I'll email it to you.

Telva,
I'm curious about where you got your U time from - you put the post as 1243615210, but I see the time of your original post as 1257449947, which is about 10 million seconds difference - is it possible that we are getting different U times in different time zones? That doesn't seem right to me.

Can other players comment on what the U time besides Telva's post that starts with "So we're waiting on me for turn 2 eh? Well, I'm going to take an early gamble here and hope it doesn't blow up in my face."

This is what I see:
"Re: A PbP Strategy Game for Erfworld
by Telva » Thu Nov 05, 2009 7:39 pm 1257449947"

The "Thu Nov 05, 2009 7:39 pm" is because of my timezone - what about the numbers afterwards? They should be Universal.

What do others see?

This is important, because the number I see gives Gee Fresh a marginal victory, rather than Telva a marginal victory.

Q: If I capture a capital, do I get all the player's cities as well?
A: No, they'll cease to exist - along with all units, schmuckers, etc.

LTDave wrote:Telva,

Well, for me that was 3 or 4 am, I was tired and took my joined date (rather than post time). Accidentally, but still :P

for me it shows 1257392347 which is still different from what yours shows LTDave.

Redoing combat now,

COMBAT!
Battle is joined in hex:
TIME OF POST (in U seconds): 1257392347
Attacker: 2 Fliers
4 Cavalry
0 Infantry
0 Siege
Total Combat Factors: 6
Random Number: 1
Tactical Bonus Result: 5
Total Combat: 12
Combat Result: LOSER
Hits Inflicted: 2

Defender: 0 Fliers
0 Cavalry
2 Infantry
0 Siege
5 Defence Factor (City Level less Siege - minimum of 1)
Total Combat Factors: 10
Random Number: 1
Tactical Bonus Result: 1
Total Combat: 12
Combat Result: VICTOR
Hits Inflicted: 7

my next post will contain my end of turn report.

which still leaves me at an advantage as if I post my turn 3 now I can take the capital without a fight.

I can't seem to find the spreadsheet you people are all talking about... hey LTDave, could you email it to me? (turbler@yahoo.ca). oh, and hex I4 should have had 1 cavalry (from turn 0) and 1 infantry (from turn 1) I'll probably take my turn 2 when all this mess is sorted out ^_^".

Also I though you did take your second turn turbler.

Huh.

Well forget my turn 3 then (edited to death).

I play from work. So spreadsheet is not an option... We need an easier method of random numbers. Thus "U time" thing is way too complicated when all we need is a simple random number generator. Not to mention it's possible to exploit. An Exploitable game mechanic is never a good thing

no, not if other players are checking combat, like dave did

like the flux turns thing I'm trying to exploit?

Yeah, it should be like in Erfworld, where everyone goes in a set order, not random.

I agree fully (and said so previously), but I think that the players going close to last need some sort of small bonus to mitigate the disadvantage of going last. at least within the first few turns.

Also: (though I didn't agree with this before) we need a bigger map.

It should be several turns before people can hit eachother, that was why I thought a large map would work better. Otehrwise first person that makes enough flying and calvalry can just stomp someone else. Also, defense of a city, we already have the multiplier from the city level, but there should probably be some other things. Parson even said it, the game isn't about having the most units, its about multiplies, and reducing the enemies mulitpliers. As of right now the only multiplier we have is city level. Capitals should technically have the leader as an actual unit, both giving the capital and extra bonus, and because the leader should be in the fight.

Having *adequate* numbers is also very important. It's just not as important as the multipliers all those units receive. It's a good idea to have a leader unit. That's why hero was proposed.

I'd like to point out that I made a combat system of my own (mentioned much earlier in the thread), and if we had used that instead of dave's system I would have got curbstomped potentially without GeeFresh losing a single unit. (unfortunately for players like you crovius, someone would have to use the spreadsheet for you, because it's silly to have to do all the math it does.)

Seige is so very important for attacking in that system.

turn order issues

Greetings Peers.

But the turn order says You can't anyway, on page 1 of this topic:
This game is designed for seven players. Players post orders on the forum. A player may not post their next set of orders until all the other players have had a turn, or six days have passed since their last post.

I knew I was the bad spot, but it's 'coz I wasn't watching the game beginning, and was a last minute entry, so no bad blood. (or thick blood)

It's a bugger Crovius if you can't open an excel spreadsheet at work. I'm cut 'coz my work has just killed facebook access. Happily I can still access irregularwebcomic and darthsanddroids.
