Barbarians are a sort of Hard Mode - You start with a single stack of strong units but as the game goes on things get harder. He could probably wipe any one of the sides off the map right now, if he could find their city.

But in time he'll be the weak one.

Agreed
And when he does find one of us, he's going to have to decide whether he thinks he can take us, or if he's better off with an alliance.
*hint hint* if the side is filthy rich, you're prolly better off with an alliance, cus obviously they're doing something right :p

Are you working on writing code for all this? I was working on this same problem in the past, but my solutions were not that good. What coding language are you using?

I believe he's referring to Hexographer or something similar, which is just how we made the map. Everything else in our game is manual pen-and-paper style via Private Message.

Yeah, hexographer is just a program. I was having problems because Java was being boop. For some reason, it works with java version 6, but not version 7 which makes no sense. Took me a day to figure that out. Was fun. The program itself is pretty simple, though, so doing maps for everyone should be a snap. Time consuming is all.

An alliance of some kind will be one of the first things I will aim to achieve. In true Jillian fashion, I aim to get a side of my own, no doubt by putting myself into the debt of another side then slowly start repaying it with schmuckers or payment-in-kind. My healomancer is going to be very busy.

Speaking of healomancy, yes you can make scrolls, and yes you need loose materials.
However, nothing says a side can't sell you some...

I've been thinking on the whole scroll thing. We're not entirely sure how they work yet so I'm going to make something up that I think should be mostly plausible:

From what I've seen it sort of looks like a scroll is roll of paper that stores a fixed amount of juice attuned to a specific discipline. Either that or a specific effect, except that a caster of that discipline can just use it as extra juice, as Maggie did during the final battle in book one.

Either way, I'm going to set things up like this for now - putting juice into scroll form either takes double the juice that you put in, or 50 juice plus the amount. Which do you all think works better? Or maybe you have a better suggestion?

Scrolls don't seem like too common a thing, especially with Maggie's comment in book 2 saying how healomancy scrolls have been much harder to come by (though there's no knowing whether that's because it's a scarce resource or because fewer people are willing to do business with Gobwin Knob). I think I'm a fan of the double juice option, and also perhaps that there's a limit to how strong a spell can be stored. As the first example that comes to mind, take croakamancy. You could have a scroll that would reanimate a single unit with most stats intact, but a mass uncroak would be too much for a single scroll to maintain. Maybe it's not the best example, but hopefully you get the idea.

I don't think there should be any limit to the power of the spell stored, because the Perfect Warlord spell (arguably the most powerful one seen yet) came in scroll form. I'm also not sure they should even require Loose Materials, since MK casters wouldn't have those either.
As for the "burning a scroll to gain Juice" idea I'm not recalling that but it could make sense in certain situations. I think that a scroll should always store a specific spell, but if that spell is within the caster's discipline, they can consume it to regain juice.
I also like the double juice cost rule.

.....in light of the welcome my queen just received upon her return, I am SO happy about the unit I'm currently popping and a particular special it has.

Also...the delay it's taking for you to answer my "if ___ then ___, otherwise ____" order and let me formally end turn has me worried about what else is happening in my Capital.....

He's just lucky that Victoria is more kind/patient than I am IRL :p

....edit: I feel the need to clarify I'm also a guy haha, cus that's a fairly important distinction between Victoria and I as well...LOL

A very, very dumb puppy.

LOL yeah...I suppose I'll give him that (emphasis on the DUMB part). He's gonna get an earful though when Victoria learns he had the erfworld equivalent of "200 dollars" when she needed about 20 hahaha. (numbers modified to avoid giving away too much info, yet still communicate what occurred).

Waaaah, turn 6? Don't say things like that. He's been so busy working on you guys he hasn't gotten round to me yet. Though, to be fair, with my internet being as terrible it is at the moment not sure how quickly I'd be able to keep up.
