Erfworld IRC

I originally had this in the Toolbox but it probably belongs here. I know this forum is still somewhat in its infancy, but i thought it might be a good idea to start an IRC channel where Toolbox members, or even just forum members could hang out and converse in a less topical manner. Would anyone be willing to host such a channel?

This would be fun. XKCD has a really active one, and I would probably hang out in an #Erfworld channel from time to time. Dunno how to host one, though.

Huh. Someone read my mind, because I was going to suggest this very thing.

Now, I'm not a computer, but I googled 'hosting an IRC channel', and found this, which looks useful. http://www.chatmag.com/help/ircserver.html

We could always just agree on a server like sorcery.net and have a kind of 'floating' channel, though we'd have no admin capabilities on it... could still be fun though. I think I'll start a #erfworld channel on the sorcery.net server whenever I'm online (which is a lot), if anyone's interested.

For just a normal #Erfworld channel, you wouldn't need much. For a #Toolbox type channel, you'd want to setup a bot to moderate channel access when other people aren't around. That way it could insta-boot anyone who didn't have appropriate access. Not sure how you'd setup managing of the access list though.
