It's pretty Orthancish, to me. Not as tall and slender, but the horns and all remind me of it.

The picture with the update didn't come through the RSS feed, so after reading these comments I took a quick look at the front page.

Ho. Ly. Cow.

The first thing I thought of was Sauron's tower from Lord of the Rings, with the evil Eye of Sauron atop, sleepless and ever searching. Yeah I'm starting to think Charlie may be a bit more evil than we thought. Remember all that stuff Parson learned about the Archon's? Almost no free will, bought and sold like slaves. It could be foreshadowing, I think.

On a lighter note:

Jillian was under an NDA! Funny, and that explains why she didn't mention Charlie.

Why was Charlie stressed at the end of the conversation? Well, I honestly think it was something unrelated to the story. Remember Charlie has 600 Archons spread all over the continent, not just the bits close to GK and Jetstone. There are lots of things that could come up that would cause stress for Charlie, and aren't related to the story here.

But this is what I imagine stressed Charlie:

Charlie: (Thinking privately to himself) "You could have turned Wanda... but you didn't... because of MY non-disclosure?" *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk* ... *facepalm*

:D

Oh yes, congrats to the folks who guessed that Jillian was leaving to turn Ansom, it seems a foregone conclusion now. I think she'll capture him, but Ansom's loyalty will prevent him from actually turning. Thus he'll stay locked up in her dungeon while they have long, difficult conversations about each other and Erfworld. Love will indeed be a battlefield.
"Do it?" Dan, I'm not a Republic serial villain. Do you seriously think I'd explain my master-stroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome?

I did it thirty-five minutes ago.

If Charlie actually believed that from Jillian than he needs to gather a little more intelligence, as it were. Jillian's general approach is to write checks first and then figure out if there's any way she can cash them. Charlie should really know that by now. That is a very funny image, though, and not unlikely.

Charlie went silent for a long time. I wonder if this means that he risked a calculation from Parson, and Parson concluded a little too much from the calculation, and now Charlie's frantically trying to cover his boop because GK, or at least Parson, now explicitly suspects him of taking sides in the conflict.

The parallel situation is that the mention of Wanda sent him scurrying off to try to get Jetstone to help Faq, and that negotiation is going south even as Jetstone is mobilizing to take out Wanda's forces. Maybe Slately doesn't like that Faq took off instead of defending his capital, and is mad at Charlie for his cooperation with Jillian (perhaps he's assuming that Jillian is following a plan) and oh by the way, mad at him for shouting in his head and giving him a splitting headache.

Perhaps both are occurring, and Charlie is getting pincered by both sides of the conflict and blown off by his only ally, and now finds himself in real trouble. This could be Charlie's no good, very bad day.

I think it was related to the story, but wasn't about Wanda. His response to Jillian had every hallmark of being a brush off. Something just happened elsewhere (the situation developing) that commands his attention "yeah... turn Wanda... great... look, I gotta go."

I have no idea what that something is, but I think we'll find out very shortly.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for me to stop visiting this site for a few months and let the comics pile up so I could enjoy them all at once in a surge of omg'ness.

Or Apple? Once you sign, you can't sell your software except through the Apple store, Apple can pull your rights to sell at any time (for any reason such as you are competition), *and* you can't even disclose the terms of the deal *or* your app getting rejected. Sounds much worse than the worst of MSFT, perhaps that is a future Apple computer case.

Maybe. I was tempted to put it on the list but then I remembered all Archons would be spheres, because spheres are more perfectly designed than humans.

As for the time required to make such a mod. I give it a month or two ;) The horns would probably be the hardest part.

Also I haven't have time to kiss up to Xin, so I'll amend this by saying that new logo, plug portrait and the Charlie tower are TEH PIMP SHIZZLE! I especially like the plug plug portrait (You actually made Rob look more dashing than before :) ).

It's a lie and you know it. No one can wait for Erfworld that long.

I like the new view of Charlie's castle. And now we see that his Side logo is a circle supported by wings-- very reminiscent of an airline logo. That makes sense since the default look of the archons is stewardess. I trust we'll be seeing that logo added to the Side hexes on the mid right side of the website banner.

And, huh? Jillian ignored nearly everyone on this forum and zoomed past both Ansom and Trem! Now she's going to blast Stanley's ground forces. And why? Obviously, because it's the least she can do that still counts as a significant contribution to the Coalition, thus justifying the support she's gotten. But it's also something on the way to her real goal so she doesn't lose move by having to change direction. She's going to strafe the column, maybe grab a couple of commanders for later turning, and continue on.

What then? Well she could be getting ready to put her tinfoil hat on and hit GK. But i agree with those who think that even she can''t get there in 1 turn. So-- something else? Put your analyst on danger money, boys and girls, because tinfoil won't help:

She's headed for Transylvito!
Read, like there won't be a movie
Game, like the die rolls don't matter
Filk, like everyone is tone deaf anyway

Er, what? She's heading for the force "with Stanley's Chief Warlord [Ansom] in it". She intends to wipe out the force, but I'm guessing that she's going to try to get Ansom to turn first.
Is this a real holy war, or just a bunch of deluded boopholes croaking each other?

Or failing that, capture him.

My random theory of the day is that the next page will show Charlie talking with Wanda, and Wanda telling him something really creepy and unsettling, hence his reaction in this text update.

About Charlescomm's design, for some reason this popped into my head right away, even if I barely remember watching that movie- I'm not even sure I saw the whole thing...
My memories are way too fuzzy but weren't there somewhat crazy buildings; an evil base or something...?

Oh well. I also thought about Crimson Skies but yeah, I guess it's pretty much the logo... I know that a lot of airborne military units and stuff have a sort of logo that's a circle with wings, and Charlie's not having a skull in it but that's what came to my mind.

I kinda hoped someone on the forums would have pointed a significance to the logo by now. XD

I reread book 2, and I didn't see anything about Parson knowing about hobgobwins, or Charlie's activity. Can someone help me out here?

I suspect you missed the text updates, you have to go to the Erfworld homepage then navigate backwards using the "Older entries" button or by figuring out the correct url.

Here's the first summer update http://www.erfworld.com/page/89/
and the first page of LiaB http://www.erfworld.com/page/40/

But that means you miss out on all these cliff hangers and all the extra info in the text updates. An archive binge usually sucks when a comic updates like Erfworld or oots, because you get caught up in a story and then you get stuck waiting for the new stuff making it seem take forever. I have enough problems with the every week day web comics I follow as it is. So my advice is keep reading as they come along.

That's pretty much how I read it, too. "GAH! Wanda could've been turned? Have to figure out how to do that before Jetstone kills her..."

Pretty sure he's represented by the glowing 'O' in the Erfworld title banner.

I don't know why, but this is one of the best cliffhangers of sorts we've had yet, I think.

Maybe it's the fact that Charlie is rarely caught wrong-footed. And it seems to have happened twice here.
They could not possibly win. Every man knew this with certainty, and lo it was glorious.

Yep I was thinking the same, the fact that there's also little computer circuits leading from it and extending out of the banner, and seeming to spread into the rest of the graphic also... interesting :) (although, it could be suggested that it's merely a shining light effect.. but it looks more than that.. foreshadowing outside of the comic perhaps..?)

The Arkendish looks drawn, not CGI as in every other look at an arkentool we've gotten previously. Text update shortcut? Or my eyes failing to notice the difference?

Maybe it's not the Arkendish?

I mean, the other Arkentools seem to require contact, and I'm sure that at some point, Charlie would have worried about someone doing a fly-by and just going LOL SWOOOP and making out with it.
