Anyone for Mafia?

Postby Foolamancer » Fri Nov 26, 2010 6:54 pm

As this appears to be the section for posting forum games, I think this is the right place to put this. If not, mods, please feel free to move it.

So. Has anyone here ever played (or heard of) Mafia? It is also sometimes known as Werewolf.

For those of you who have not, Mafia is a game which was created as part of a college course on psychology (or psychiatry, or communication, or something similar). It took off, and has become an extremely popular party game, and spawned several commercial versions (though you can play entirely for free). It is an exercise in trust and lies. Trust can kill you, but trust is ultimately what decides the fate of the players. You can't win on your own.

For an overview of the rules, you can see this Flash program. It's a very simple game, really; the Flash program shouldn't take more than five minutes to read and understand.

For a more comprehensive list of possible roles, you can check out this Flash program.

So, is anyone interested in playing this game over the forums here? I'd be willing to run the first game (and possibly subsequent ones). We'd need at least seven players, but preferably nine or more.

I'll play, too!

And we could sort of get away with a 5-6 person game if it comes to that - I've played in those games before.

PS: Those flash tutorials are AWESOME - I wish I'd had them to help newbies in those aforementioned small games.

Yeah, they are nice, aren't they?

While it's technically possible to play with five or six people, the games are so short that they usually end up as an exercise in Mafia game theory than in actual gameplay. We can do that if absolutely necessary, but I'd prefer to get a full game going.
