Flower Power Practitioner

Postby Kreistor » Wed Jul 01, 2009 3:24 pm

From the Wiki:
"There is a debate on what a practitioner of Flower Power is called."

Uhm... ideas anyone? What might they be called? I'll put all the ideas in there as Spec. I don't like hanging unknowns like this. Pu ton your thinking caps and give me something...

Flower Child would be my vote, mostly because it's a hippie synonym.
Free Spirit could be a date-a-mancer, and Beatnik for signamancy.

Well, I think the problem here is that "Signamancer" is to "Signamancy" as "Croakamancer" is to "Croakamancy", but that doesn't give us any incidaction of what "Hat Magic" or "Flower Power" relate to. "Flower Child" is cool and appropriate, so yoink and away! The others... Date-a-mancer and Signamancer are probably correct until contra-indicated by text in the comic.

Sage, maybe. But Flower Child sounds better, I think.

Well, since we know that a Grand Abbie can apparently can calm conflicts, and from the context of that discussion that Janis likely is one and she seems like a flower-power type to me, maybe they are simply called Abbies?
So, Uncle Xykon, what's the moral of the story?

Abbess is a superior in a convent. Given the context in which it is used, Sizemore complaining that failure to end the war in Erfworld made JAnis' title meaningless, I think Grand Abbie has more to do with a Peace Movement of Casters than a Flower Power title. Abbie doesn't have an ovious association to the "Flower Power" movement, at least that I am aware of. Abbie itself is only a form of Abigail, for all I could find.

I'm uncomfortable with Abbie, especially given the female connotation. Abbot would be the male form of Abbess, and it's got more powerful religious tones that Rob would have to fight through. If you push, I'll add it, but are you really certain you're right?

Sage is also a herb. That actually works on two levels. I don't think it's right, but it's worth an entry in the list, just for the double link.

Oh, were we going for things we think might actually be right?

I was just trying to come up with as many puns as I could.

Umm...

Flower Power Broker?

Flower Powerista?

Well, yeah. The original author suggested there was serious controversy, so he/she obviously thought there was debate. People can debate anything as a joke, but if we're looking to fill in controversy, it better have an attempt at serious backing, even if intentionally foolishly suggested.

Punny is good. Punny and apropos is better.

Flower Power Broker?

Mixes dissimilar paradigms. Power Broker doesn't fit with Janis' outlook. Had she not been so obviously pacifist, I'd jump on it.

Flower Powerista?

Kinda only works for the female, doesn't it?

Well, if you like it, I'll put it in.

Floramancer, too. That actually sounds like what the Disc should have in the first place. Floramancy is actually consistent.

Actually, that's five. Good enough. If anyone comes up with something really, really good Ill add it. So for now, the Flower Shoppe is closed.

I doubt it. It seems contrary to the otherwise PG rating Erfworld seems to have. My money's on either Sage, or Floramancer. Floramancer for consistancy, and Sage for the obvious pun (although if it was Sage, the Erfworlder probably wouldn't get the pun. Parson would.)

Well, Erfworld as an entity has a PG-rating, yes, which would apply to names of Flower Power practitioners, so your point still stands. The comic itself is significantly more PG-13, and it wouldn't surprise me to see it go further.
