First webcomic I ever read, starting way back in 2001, and it's still just incredibly nifty.

A few other good ones that haven't been mentioned:

http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Dragon_Doctors/index.php?p=619573 The Dragon Doctors. Recently started, really good; fantasy storyline. Note that the artist has an interesting habit of first posting a pencil sketch of his most recent strip, then posting a full version later, so if the most recent one looks rough that's why.

http://egscomics.com/ El Goonish Shive. Been running a long time. Dosn't update that regularly, and storylines take a long time to go anywhere, but it's always interesting.

http://galactanet.com/comic/ Casey and Andy. This webcomic is finished now, the story is done and it is no longer updating, but if you haven't read the archives, you need to; it's just incredibly funny. "Two mad scientists who periodically die".

I use the www.piperka.net comic bookmarking site: it keeps track of all my favorite comics, lets me know which ones have been updated since I last read them, and lets me browse a huge comic database sorted by name, popularity, or date added to the list. Really really good stuff- in fact, it's how I found this site.

Oh how I wish I could be a tool.

Alas, I mere middle schooler am I, and the resources I lack to pay the fee.

Boop the economy, by the way.

A tool in spirit, I suppose.

I think my wife summed up this comic best:
Written by a five-year-old and illustrated by his 29-year-old brother, Axe Cop is so awesome YOU WON'T BELIEVE YOUR BRAIN!

BRINK - http://paperfangs.com/brink/ - Excellent story, very interesting character developments going on there. A must read.

Servants of the Imperium - http://www.servantsoftheimperium.com/comic/index.php - very much Order of the Stick visual style, but in a Warhammer 40k setting rather than D&D.
I don't care what kind of laughter it is; if it comes from the DM, it's bad news.

The best webcomic I have ever read, there was a new four-panel strip every day for over 7 years until it finally ended two years ago. Ladies and Gentlemen, behold the majesty of Bob and George

I just discovered FreakAngels, about a group of 12 psychic twenty-somethings living in post apocalytic London.
Spoiler: show
which they caused.

Its author 'the' Warren Ellis describes it as a comic about the Midwich Cuckoos if they survived and grew up.

Excellent, updates weekly in 5-page batches.

Planescape Survival Guide
The Multiverse is in peril against an unstoppable force called the Nothing. Best bet to stop it is probably some inexperienced (ie, expendable) adventurers. Now on Chapter 4, with episode 160. Updates... periodically.

Harry Potter Comics
17 years after defeating Voldemort, dark wizards are on the rise again. With their kids starting school, Head Auror Harry Potter is called in to deal with wizards wielding guns and defensive armor... and a mysterious figure known only as the Necromancer. Updates every day:
Kevin and Kell - Funny and silly despite being set in a world where people eat each other.
Schlock Mercenary - A family-friendly comic about space mercenaries. Yes you read that right.

Updates less than daily:
Erfworld - You're here!
Effort Comics - warning, some NSFW content. And then just some teases :) (warning, that second link has music)
Freefall - It's hard to summarize this one, but it's awesome. :D Always has a punchline, and deals with issues such as civil rights and ethics. Author is a nuclear engineer so it has good sci-fi elements too. The protagonists solve problems without violence. (Not counting pie fights or Sam getting squeezed by a terraforming robot.) Features an alien who comes across as an actual alien (non-human ethics) and Florence, a Bowman's Wolf who is the Trope Namer for "My Instincts Are Showing"

Order of the Stick - You may have heard of this one.
Girl Genius - An update schedule and level of quality that Erfworld should emulate. A steampunk-ish world with Mad Scientists.
Goblins - warning, some NSFW content. Mature themes. Life through the eyes of a goblin.

Nerf Now! - Video games and/or other subjects.
Penny Arcade - Video game comics at their finest. Topical humor. Covers other subjects too.
Real Life Comics - The author's life in comic form, more or less. (Obvious fictional elements are obvious) Occasionally contains completely awesome suggestions.

Starslip Crisis - From the maker of Checkerboard Nightmare (which was a webcomic about web comics) this one has a detailed storyline and world.
The Noob - very rare to update now, but still funny when it does. Interesting storylines.
The Whiteboard - a comic loosely about paintball. Or about Doc making some crazy machine.

VG Cats - very rare to update, but worth it when it does. Topical humor about video games, mostly.

Ha, I'm amazed with all these webcomics already listed I still have one or two to contribute to the list. At least, I didn't notice them as I read through.

Two Guys and Guy - www.twogag.com
Very new comic, drawn well. Two guys and a girl named Guy in a series of crazy strips which are really quite funny.

Crimson Dark - www.davidcsimon.com/crimsondark
Firefly tribute webcomic rendered in 3D graphics. Different characters, different universe, same theme. Very good, very funny, takes a while to update largely due to the process that goes into it.

HappleTea - www.happletea.com
Crazy series of strips featuring a young boy, his parent Sasquatch, and God the cat, amongst other characters. A lot of mythology is drawn upon and discussed, and every strip is followed by the artist writing a rather intelligent post about the topic at hand. Very intelligent and very witty.

Also, I have to give my support to Goblins, Finders Keepers, and Schlock Mercenary. They are all very clever, and very very well put together.

Well, I guess it's up to me to post the super-obscure Nethack-themed comic, Dudley's Dungeon:

Original: http://www.nicolaas.net/dudley/ (Finished, but carried on by two collaborative effort comics, below.)

Continuation I: http://sadowl.com/dudley/ (Barely scraping by once a week, but badly in need of readers and contributors.)

Continuation II: http://alt.org/nethack/dudley/ (Very erratic, and currently flatlined...)

City of Reality
cityofreality.com

It's really quite a good story. The first chapter jumps a little bit too "in medias res" for me, but that's it's main issue is that the beginning doesn't take the time to explain itself. Other than that, it's absolutely fantastic, with a wonderful setting, stories that range from creepy (chapter 5 part 2 sent shivers down my spine), to pure fun, to philosophical, to just really flippin cool (remember, when you get to chapter 7, watch for the link on the bottom of the page. Follow that link, read that all the way through, then come back and read the chapter 7 that's on the site. I missed the link originally, so I was rightfully confused. It's in big bold letters, but I was too busy reading page after page that I totally missed the link).

The art is simplistic, but that doesn't diminish the value of this comic. The setting is interesting enough on it's own, combined with interesting characters, good writing (banter between AV and Hawk is quite enjoyable), and the mayor of Reality is a sock puppet. And he's the best mayor ever (at first he seems just silly, but later you get to see just how great of a leader he is).
