I am so glad to see people taking this so seriously. Waking up to find Google changed it's banner to a censor bar (and is holding a petition) and that Wikipedia has blacked out it's own service today entirely to raise awareness feels very profound - those are two of the most visited sites on the internet!

Balder's post on erfworld helps too, though. :)

I will say this thank you. We half to stop this but I feel that several people who are sponsoring this bill are not going to stop this bill. We must all contact our representatives.

You may have to do it the old-fashioned way -- apparently quite a few Congressional web/e-mail servers are buckling under the strain today.... :D
Is this a real holy war, or just a bunch of deluded boopholes croaking each other?

The SOPA bill has been withdrawn. So, it looks like it worked.

In other news, Megaupload was shut down due to Conspiracy to Commit Racketeering, Conspiracy to Commit Copyright Infringement, Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering and Criminal Copyright Infringement. The Copyright Infringement I can see, but the Racketeering and Money Laundering caught me by surprise.

Either there was something real-er going on that IP offenses, or the prosecution is throwing things they know won't stick in hopes of alienating the site's potential base of support. Doing an internet IP case in the middle of the SOPA/PIPO upheaval might prompt divide-and-destroy tactics usually reserved for use against activists.
