Reactions to Tabula: An Erfworld Tale

Postby DevilDan » Wed Aug 19, 2009 12:54 pm

The story is building up slowly, but I'm very curious to see where it's going.

Does this count as machinima, I wonder, or is it something different?

I don't know about you guys, but I really like this fancomic and I want to see where it goes!

P.S. Use this topic for discussion, it makes the other thread cleaner to read, I think

Quite so. ^^

May even ask those who posted in the previous thread to Delete those posts and simply paste 'em in here so it's a solid comic.

I'd delete, but unless I'm missing something, there's no way to delete.

I've deleted the post using my Modly powers. There's another one that should be moved here, but I need to explore the Mod control panel a bit to find out how to do that.

EDIT: OK, got it. Also edited the original post in the story thread to add a link to this thread to encourage people to post the comments here as requested.
Is this a real holy war, or just a bunch of deluded boopholes croaking each other?

I love how Civilization IV was used to represent Erfworld. Although the Mancies would be difficult to represent (well, I like how Mathamancy was done :)) next time I play Civilization IV I'm gonna think of Tabula.

I assume it's a reference to the Latin phrase "tabula rasa," which metaphorically refers to starting anew, to starting from scratch, which is what we are seeing: the start of a new side and a new city.

PA: No, the new sig is fine. Good idea. I love the reference to the lorax.

Re: Lorax

Thanks! I was afraid no one would get that. It took me ever so long to think of a proper pun on its name, and in the end I couldn't think of one, so I cute-ified it instead.

Re: Tabula

I don't want to get into the habit of explaining little things I want people to figure out for themselves and go "Oh, that's what's going on here!" (there is a bunch of that), but I think this one is fairly basic and will help to show their presence..

Tabula Rasa is a latin term meaning "Blank Slate", which means in itself to begin anew, to start fresh. Tabula itself means Tablet, a utensil you write on, the "Slate" portion of Blank Slate. Slate, of course, refers to the diary-esque fashion the updates come in, while "Blank" is just associated with the entire storyline in a fashion.

Obviously Tabula brings to mind Tabula Rasa, Blank Slate, but it's not ACTUALLY Tabula Rasa, it's just Tabula. It's not Blank Slate, it's just Slate. It just calls up that association automatically due to the phrase. Although the slate SEEMS clean (your unconcious association of Rasa to Tabula), it's not. The character writing these entries is not a blank slate, but comes from another side and has some history (and was level five to begin with.)

There is more to it, but I think that much answers your question, does it? :]

TL;DR:
So it means "Slate", but actually refers to quite a bit of things. Smilie face here.

Are Ultrasquad the "Power Rangers?"

Ah, lots of intriguing new things happening in the latest update.

ehhhh... never bothered to learn that part of languages, I stopped somewhere around the advanced past tense of whatever... But I can see what you mean and I appreciate it.

A very good, Klog standart story.
You're not your character class.
You're not how much GP you have in the bank.
You're not the airship you fly.
You're not the contents of your item list.
You're not you fuggin' armor.
You are the all-fighting, all-spellcasting heroes of the world.

"Zeddon"... I guess that Space Altar is based on the Power Rangers, then?
