I have a feeling the bear was closer to the wall than the dwagons. For all we know the dwagons were attacking other cloth golems that we don't see right now, because they've been shredded.

As for Jack, I think he has a specific plan in mind for stopping that giant bear and which requires a specific dwagon type.
