Panel 1

A view of the Tower of Efdup from a vantage point above the city, about level with the upper reaches of the tower. Several Dwagons circle the tower against a backdrop of lightly-clouded blue sky.[edit]

Parson Gotti: So, what? You can just mind-control your Ruler whenever he makes a decision you don't like?

Maggie: No. Only when I am certain he is wrong.
[edit]

Panel 2

Inside the Situation Room, Parson is angrily confronting Maggie, leaning forward toward her and thrusting his arms to the side in evident exasperation.[edit]

Maggie: And, in fact, it involves great personal risk...

Parson Gotti: He's not wrong!
[edit]

Panel 3

Parson's face is seen from Maggie's vantage point as he scowls down at her.[edit]
Parson Gotti: Wanda's group needs the bonus! [edit]

Panel 4

Maggie looks right back up toward Parson, as she firmly holds her ground.[edit]

Maggie: And will it save them, Lord?

Maggie: And should our next Chief Warlord really be another Decrypted?
[edit]

Panel 5

Parson stands beside the map table, gazing off toward the wall as he places his eyebook down on the table with his right hand while letting his bracer-clad left arm hang at his side. Behind him, Maggie gestures with her right arm as she speaks.[edit]

Parson Gotti: I don't want this.

Maggie: Irrelevant.

You are needed.
[edit]

Panel 6

Parson is seen in profile, his hair hanging down over his face, his hand still upon his eyebook as he leans a bit into the map table. At his side, Maggie looks up at him, continuing to speak and gesture as she seeks to get through to him.[edit]

Maggie: We are called.

Maggie: We serve.

Maggie: Perhaps... we are never certain our cause is just.
[edit]

Panel 7

Parson's right arm is visible, leaning against the map table. Maggie reaches out to touch it.[edit]

Maggie: But we know the need is real.

Maggie: We know if we have done our Duty.
[edit]

Panel 8

Parson turns toward Maggie, gritting his teeth furiously and waving his right arm emphatically.[edit]

Parson Gotti: Bullshit, that's a total rationalization.

Parson Gotti: You could use that to justify anything!
[edit]

Panel 9

Parson looks down at Maggie. His expression is still angry; we cannot see her face but she continues to hold her ground and face him squarely.[edit]

Parson Gotti: You don't really believe that...

Maggie: I do.
[edit]

Panel 10

Maggie continues speaking, her expression rather calm in the face of Parson's outburts.[edit]

Maggie: But in actual fact, I was paraphrasing Sizemore.

Maggie: That's how he has come to view your ordering him into the city tunnels to slaughter Jetstone.
[edit]

Panel 11

Parson stares with a stunned frown.[edit]
(There is no text in this panel.) [edit]

Panel 12

Maggie's head and shoulders are seen from behind, silhouetted against Parson's breastplate. Parson's head is cocked in a thoughtful pose as he shifts mental gears.[edit]

Parson Gotti: Pffright. So at least it's a battle-tested bullshit rationalization.

Maggie: It will serve, Lord.
[edit]

Panel 13

Parson now wears a determined, but still not very happy, expression.[edit]

Parson: Fine.

Parson: Put me though to Jack.
[edit]

Panel 14

The view shows the full expanse of the Gobwin Knob Situation Room. The red carpet stretches from the foreground, to the middle of the room where Parson and Maggie are visible as small figures standing at the far side of the map table, and onward to the opposite wall, which is decorated by a large stylized image of a yellow dwagon.[edit]

Parson: Got a real ugly idea already.
