[edit] Turns 76-83?

It looks to me like pages 76-79a are a Gobwin Knob turn (Parson hopes to get Stanley to attack; Stanley instead flees) and pages 80-83 are a Royal Crown Coalition turn (Jillian is using move to circle GK and return to Ansom's camp. (The top panel of page 81 is a bit of an oddbal -- perhaps a slight flashback, or perhaps Stanley ended turn and only afterwards noticed what he'd gotten in the way of a "veil".) Pages 84-84 are Night, and Page 86 starts a new day (with all turn numbers from then on increased by 1). SteveMB 19:41, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Sounds reasonable, I made the change. --Raphfrk 20:24, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Taking a further look, it seems that night is falling at the end frame of page 81 and has fallen during the next to last frame of 83. I've changed 82-83 to "Night" SteveMB 02:06, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Book (TBFGK) Page Link

I added entries to bring the database up to date, but the "Book (TBFGK)" link seems to choke on them. Not sure if I broke something (I tried removing the additions and re-editing, with no change) or if the server is choking on that amount of page generation data. SteveMB 19:48, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Probably the latter. Does everything else appear to be working? --Ichthus (eyeBook) 05:16, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, it looks like we've just gotten to the point where it's so big it can't process everything. The template people should probably get together and see if they can optimize the code a bit to speed it up. However, it's a massive frickin' bit of code. --Ichthus (eyeBook) 09:30, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Everything else (the frame and page views) look normal. If it's sheer volume, it might be necessary to break the "Book (TBFGK)" view into subsections or give up on having direct frameview links there. SteveMB 10:53, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
It is probably the sheer volume, even when it works, it takes a seconds of time to load the first time after you make a change for the Book based view. The problem is that templates don't allow variables, you need to recalculate everything every time you want to use it.
The error given for me is "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /var/www/wiki/includes/parser/Preprocessor_DOM.php on line 880", which seems pretty conclusive where the problem lies --Raphfrk 17:45, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Ok, it is working again, I have removed the ability to select individual panels. Also, once it is generated, the page is not regenerated unless some of the underlying templates are modified. --Raphfrk 18:02, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Any suggestions on better formatting. One option would be something like:
Linking the "Book" link to the Descriptive Table of Contents seems to work. It's more useful, and there's no real reason for that level of indexing to be generated on the fly (especially now that Book 1 is done, and there's no reason to edit anything other than to tweak the page descriptions).SteveMB 18:27, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

(and so on)

Also, maybe add a method for comments, so something like

Ofc, more data puts more load on the server :) --Raphfrk 18:02, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Book Terminus

What's the proper entry code for indicating the beginning or end of a book? Right now, TBFGK 1 is preceded by an empty string as the page number, but TBFGK 150 is followed by the will-never-exist [[TBFGK 151]]... Menlo Marseilles 09:13, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Update: I changed the pager template code to interpret a page number "END" as indicating that the book is over. Only problem: TBFGK 150 isn't updating. Any other wiki article that includes a pager set to the last page of TBFGK? Shows up beautifully, correctly dropping the "Next" section of the navbar. But the page where it matters is stubbornly sticking to the old view.
... is there some "clear cache for this page" button I need to press? Menlo Marseilles 09:39, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Try going to "edit" on the page, replace the word "edit" in the URL with "purge", and load the page. I just looked at the wiki page for Page 150 and it looks right ("Previous" link, no "Next" link). SteveMB 11:37, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
OK, looks like it works now. Thanks! Menlo Marseilles 12:37, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
In fairness, template development isn't handled by the mediawiki software very well. They should have a way to use "show preview" to test out your mods. Maybe, you enter a string so you are able to set the parameters. The cache thing got me at the start too, and the purge option isn't available unless you manually do the trick SteveMB suggested, so you need to know about it. (Anyway, I'll stop whining now :) ). I think it might be worth modifying them again later so that we can link to the summer updates by pressing next and then to book 2. --Raphfrk 01:45, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
