"Flower Power" was a slogan used by the 1960's-70's peace movement whose practicioners were known as Hippies, who worked to end the war in Vietnam, fight racial injustice, and revolutionize the American government. Their idealology included non-violent protest and passive interference of authority. Their clothing was usually vibrant, and they were frequently associated with drug use, psychedlic music and art, and social permissiveness. Their art (such as on their vans) often, or at least stereotypically, featured simple, colorful floral designs. Flowers were a significant symbol of peace protests after a group of hippies put flowers in the muzzles of guns carried by young National Guards sent to maintain order.
