First Appearance: IPTSF Text 50

Judy Gale was Overlord of Haffaton and the attuned wielder of the Arkenshoes. She was kept in a drugged stupor at the end of a yellow brick road and close to an emerald City.

She is described as a ghostly looking woman wearing a blue gingham dress and a long silk scarf, with her short white hair streaked with black and adorned with a dirt-covered diamond tiara. Her signamancy indicated personal decay; she is thin, skeletal to the point of weighing nothing at all; her teeth are rotten or missing; she seems to be missing her eyebrows, but marks had been drawn on her skin above her deep brown eyes which sort of resembled them.

She uses walking stick that appears to be broom with the straw burnt mostly off; it is implied to be magical, and capable of Flight. Around one ankle she wears some kind of Magic Item in the shape of an ankle bracelet.

Judy is confirmed to come from another world, possibly even Stupidworld. In IPTSF Text 51, Judy Gale uses the word 'kill' instead of 'croak'. In IPTSF Text 62, she uses the word 'year' to refer to a time period of 365 turns. In addition, she claims to be from a place called 'Kansas'.

Real World References
She is named for the actress (Judy Garland) and main character (Dorothy Gale) from the Wizard of Oz.

Her gingham blue dress is a reference to the blue gingham dress worn by Judy Garland when portraying Dorothy Gale in the Wizard of Oz movie.

The magic ankle bracelet may be a shackle, but from it artwork it appears far more to resemble an electronic curfew tag.

Speculation
Judy could be a native of Earth, and brought to Erfworld for some currently unknown purpose, much like Parson has been. This would be in keeping with the Wizard of Oz references that this character seems to be heavily involved in.

Special Note
Judy is one of the few characters to have been a subject of Retconjuration; originally named Dorothy, Rob decided she was a more complex character, and Retconned her name to reflect that. 11/15/2012
A year is a period of time referring to 365 turns (or days in Stupidworld). Erfworld doesn't have seasons or related phenomenon to make years a useful measurement and no equivelant system is used for describing the magnitude of time. As a result, this isn't a normal part of an Erfworlder's vocabulary, though they will still understand the word if a Stupidworlder speaks it.
Strengths: Philosophy, Peace, Moderating Discussions

Weaknesses: War, Naivety, Dealing With His Daughter

First Appearance: TBFGK 82

King Loj Banhammer was the Royal, human and final Ruler of Faq before he was croaked.1 Jillian Zamussels is his daughter and an heir to his throne. His rule was, until the end, peaceful and avoided conflict.

He had multiple Casters. In order to remain out of the conflict that rages across Erfworld, he relied on his Foolamancer (Jack Snipe) and Predictamancer (Marie Lavraie) to conceal his cities. He had few Warlords and did not think much of them, lacking any use for them.1

After his Predictamancer foretold the eventual fall of the kingdom, King Banhammer ordered an heir popped. The heir, Jillian, did not have the philosophical temperament Banhammer had hoped for, leading to problems in their relationship. According to Jillian, Banhammer was very rule-bound, obsessed with philosophy, and uninterested in military matters.1.

King Banhammer was croaked during the assault on Faq by Stanley the Plaid. This attack was orchestrated by Wanda Firebaugh in an attempt to pry the Arkenhammer from Stanley, but the plan failed when Stanley proved too powerful.

The Principles of Peace
According to IPTSF Text 58, Banhammer wrote a treatise of his philosophies called The Principles of Peace. In it, he discourses on the different Principles (which include the Principle of Mutual Benefit and the Principle of Generosity) and the Hierarchy of Good. Within the Hierarchy, he ranks what he terms as Services, based on which are of the greatest Good.

As of IPTSF 58, we only know of the Services Life, Love, Harmony and Wisdom. Wisdom is ranked over the others, because:<br>
::You must understand that the progression of the world is toward a greater Wisdom. Individual Life must perish, but Wisdom well-served can accumulate. It will serve and enrich new Life as new Life inevitably generates! So the hierarchy does not imply that Wisdom is greater in value than Life, but that the service of Wisdom is of greater importance because it also serves Life and Love and Harmony and all the other Goods.

Speculation
*It is possible that his croaking is shown on page 1471. The body size seems to match with King Banhammer. 1
**Defeated as Stanley relates in text update 27 2 that Wanda immediately croaked and uncroaked the King when his dwagons stormed Faq.

Banhammer may have intentionally caused the strife between himself and his daughter. Popping an heir would not have changed the Prediction concerning his Kingdom: With or without an heir, it would still have been destroyed. From Jillian's temperament, he would know that she would have died in glorious battle defending her kingdom futilely making her popping a waste of effort; however, by being away from Faq at the time of its fall, she would become a Barbarian Warlord at his croaking, then could return to Faq and reclaim it, resurrecting and rebuilding the dead Side.

Real World References
His name is a reference to the power wielded by an administrator to ban or block users of internet media.

His name might also be a reference to the proverb "He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword", since he and his city were defeated by the power of the Arkenhammer.

Lojban is a constructed, syntactically unambiguous human language based on predicate logic.

Abilities
*Veiling Units or even Cities<br>
*Can create large scale illusions and sounds at high volume levels, as when Jack Snipe creates a gigantic projection of Stanley and "plays" martial music during the celebration of Stanley's return to Gobwin Knob. Along the same lines, it can even simulate touch, as Jack does when he creates an illusory copy of Olive Branch's chillaxe which Olive tries and fails to play.
*Can detect veiled units such as archons (LIAB Text 6)
*See what another unit sees, including hallucinations.
Known Spells
*Displacement: The caster makes a stack invisible, and creates a holographic projection of that stack some distance away. The image behaves as the stack, and reveals the stack just as it is, with no changes, so enemies can see the strength and composition, as well as the action, of the stack, but are misled as to its location.2

*Baffle: The stack(s) are visually obscured, but may still be targeted. It's unclear how much of a defense bonus this gives, but would make it difficult or impossible to target individual units.2

Known Foolamancers
Jack Snipe: in service to Gobwin Knob and previously Faq. <br>

Speculation
It is suggested that chances to see through a veil are determined by the number of units veiled multiplied by the number of warlords looking. In Page 1071 there are 11 warlords looking for "30 or so" units giving around 300 chances. A direct multiplication would give 330 chances for that particular stack to find 30 veiled units.

Another explanation for "330 chances" is that each warlord rolls once against each veiled unit that it might see. If the roll is a success, that warlord sees that unit. The chances of winning that roll would therefore still be unknown.
As of IPTSF Text 51, it's been revealed that Olive had turned the Ruler of Haffaton, Judy Gale, into a flower-addicted puppet and been keeping her in the Olive Garden. Due to their involvement in Parson's discovery, it may be assumed that they may be used to find things, like people, and may be involved with the promotion of warlords. It is possible that Findamancers can block other Findamancers attempts to find a particular person, place, or thing, such as making a place like FAQ unfindable (â la making something unplottable in the Harry Potter series), or to prevent Gobwin Knob from finding Gobwins.
Lady Wanda Firebaugh is Chief Croakamancer in the service of Lord Stanley. Before entering Stanley's service, she was popped by the side of Goodminton. Her father was Overlord Firebaugh who promoted Wanda to Heir Designate moments before the destruction of Goodminton. After that, Wanda worked first for Haffaton, and then later for the Kingdom of Faq.

She is capable of casting a wide variety of spells, including the spell that summoned Parson, but claims to dislike casting spells which are not related to croakamancy. She has a talent and a taste for interrogation and is capable at it to the point she can break a Royal's will. Wanda's ability to gain Jillian's cooperation through torture suggests that Wanda has some talent for Turnamancy, since it seems similar to the process Vanna used while turning Duncan Scone. Jillian thinks Wanda's technique is superior to Vanna's. In the past, she has also been known to use Dirtamancy to create memorial stones in honor of the croaked and once used Findamancy to recover the Arkenshoes from Olive Branch on her ruler's behalf.

Wanda sees herself (and Stanley) as "minor actors" serving a greater destiny. She believes she and the other individuals who are attuned to Arkentools have a role to play in the Titan's plans, and that no one (not even herself) can prevent this plan from happening. She does think that by supporting the Titan's plan, and not opposing it, she can reduce the amount of pain and suffering experienced by everyone involved.

Wanda is of average height for a human female from Erfworld. She has raven black hair that reach to her shoulder blades (but is frequently worn up) and white skin. Her eyes are light blue with a white sclera, but no pupil, and the eyebrows are trimmed thin. Like all Erfworld humans, she has a somewhat childlike lower body with slender hips, adequate cleavage, and an overly large head (though this might just be due to artist drawing style). She dresses only in white, red, and black, and usually has some skull motif somewhere in her clothing or accessories.

The Maze of Fate
Wanda is absolutely convinced that Marie Lavraie revealed to her some predictions about the future of Erfworld that are certain to come true. She knew that she would one day attune to an Arkentool, but did not know how this would come about. She also knew that it was the Fate of the Arkentools to be found and brought together. As a consequence, whenever she had to make a decision, she took the path which seemed to lead most directly towards the fulfilment of these Predictions. If a choice seemed likely to increase the probability that she would gain an Arkentool, she made that choice, even if it seemed horribly risky. So she conspired to bring Stanley to Faq, because it was possible that he would die in the battle, allowing her to take the Arkenhammer. When that plan resulted in the destruction of Faq, she encouraged Stanley to adopt the high risk strategy of questing for other Arkentools, because it was possible that he might find one she could attune to. The quest for Arkentools nearly led to the destruction of Gobwin Knob, so she persuaded Stanley to buy an untested, potentially dangerous, and highly expensive spell which might bring a "Perfect Warlord" to Erfworld.
This spell ultimately did lead to Wanda attuning to the Arkenpliers, which reinforced Wanda's conviction that Marie Lavraie's Predictions had been true, and that her method of trying to push history in the "correct" direction does produce results. After she had obtained the Arkenpliers, Wanda made some comments to Parson which indicate that she thinks she knows some things about his future as well.

Now that Gobwin Knob's campaign to conquer Jetstone has begun, Wanda has once again started to make very dangerous choices, such as her decision to deviate from the battle plans proposed by both Ansom and Parson, and her decision to personally lead the attack on Spacerock. Given Wanda's past history, this apparent recklessness may represent an attempt to fulfill another of Marie Lavraie's Predictions. Jack Snipe has suggested that it in fact may have more to do with Queen Jillian.

A Question of Loyalties
After Wanda gained the Arkenpliers, she believed she'd found the most direct pathway to the achievement of her Fate. However, the sudden shift in her fortunes after she turned down Jillian's offer of an alliance has persuaded her that she has somehow deviated from the correct path, though she doesn't yet understand precisely how.
She will need to decide whether her error was her failure to immediately croak Jillian, her failure to ally with Jillian, or if it was simply her resistance to letting Jillian see Ansom. She continued to serve Stanley after she gained an Arkentool because she believes it is the destiny of the Arkentools to come together. But the restoration of Faq means that Wanda could theoretically choose to rejoin her former side, if she decided that doing so was consistent with her Fate.

Jillian has told Wanda that it is possible for her to rejoin Faq while still fulfilling her destiny, but has not yet explained precisely how or why this is the case. (It seems likely this is related to Charlie's patronage of Faq at the time--Wanda could have turned while still following her destiny, as Charlie bears the Arkendish.) In light of her new-found uncertainly about her correct path, Wanda may try to reopen negotiations with Jillian at the first opportunity, in order to explore this option more fully.

Wanda's Wardrobe
One of Wanda's listed strengths is Fashion, so it's not surprising that she changes her raiment much more frequently than any other character. At present, Wanda wears an "outfit" comprised of ripped bandages from her Fall into the Spacerock Atrium. For a catalog of her costume, visit Wanda's Wardrobe. Note that this page is image heavy.

Wanda's Livery
Wanda's livery is a Grey, flowered skull on a black field.

The flower is not dissimilar to the ones Dame Olive Branch used to subdue Jillian and Overlady Judy Gale of Haffaton. Based on conversation between Dame Branch and Wanda, and Wanda's emaciated appearance, it can be assumed that Wanda was also subject to the effects of the flowers at some point between the fall of Goodminton and her appearance in the memory garden.

Plot
Wanda was popped as the third caster for Goodminton. Lord Firebaugh had been falsely led to believe by Goodminton's Chief Predictamancer, Delphie Temple, that Wanda would pop as a Warlord. He was initially disgusted by her school of magic and wary of magic as a whole, but came to be more open-minded as Wanda showed her incredible value.

At the time she popped, Goodminton was in a desperate situation fighting a losing battle against multiple sides at once. With the obvious tactical applications of her magic, and her open-minded curiosity, Wanda began to turn the tide of the war to her side's benefit.

Delphi has told Wanda several predictions, which Wanda has done her best to defy (thus far, successfully). Chief among these is the prediction that Olive Branch will become her Chief Caster, and that her Fate is entwined with Olive's.

At some later point, Wanda becomes affiliated with King Banhammer of the Kingdom of Faq. The circumstances leading up to this change of sides is as of yet uncertain, but Wanda met Marie Lavraie and Jack Snipe in the Magic Kingdom shortly after her success with the Air Conflict over Goodminton city, when she was level 4 (presumably).

Following Stanley the Plaid's discovery of the Arkenhammer, she attempted to acquire the Arkenhammer by arranging for Stanley to attack Faq. She claims she expected Stanley to be croaked, but her plan failed when Stanley destroyed Faq. She then changed sides, and encouraged Stanley to seek the other Arkentools. 1
Since the fall of Faq. Wanda has behaved in a way that suggests she is loyal to Stanley. She obeys his commands and serves his side without being under any loyalty spells. However, this may have been only to preserve his power as a tool to aid her getting an Arkentool to attune to.

During the events described in Book One, Wanda supplemented Gobwin Knob's rather meager forces by using Croakamancy to animate fallen troops as uncroaked. In particular, all of Stanley's remaining warlords (after the death of Lord Manpower the Temporary), were uncroaked.

Wanda served as Stanley's chief adviser, being both highly intelligent and adept at persuading him to adopt her suggestions and think they were his idea all along. Most notably, she persuaded Stanley to spend the bulk of the treasury on a spell to summon a "Perfect Warlord" with the military genius to salvage Gobwin Knob's untenable situation, the casting of which summoned Parson Gotti to Erfworld.

Wanda contributions to Stanley the Plaid's war effort during this period included the practice of her "hobbies" -- torture and interrogation. After Jillian Zamussels was captured and brought to Gobwin Knob, she was subjected to torture and a magic spell (presumably some sort of Thinkamancy) and persuaded to reveal Prince Ansom's battle plans. (There is also a heavily implied sadomasochistic relationship between Wanda and Jillian, which indicates Jillian may not have been totally unwilling.) Wanda also demonstrated that she was capable of handling a wide variety of other Magic, but professed to lack real interest in any besides Croakamancy.

Wanda has recently come into ownership of the Arkenpliers and was able to 'attune' to them. According to her, it was Predicted in Faq "long ago" that this would come to pass, and that she has "wrecked and ruined" more than Parson (who, for perspective, had at the time of this comment just recently brought about the destruction of the entire Royal Coalition present at or near Gobwin Knob as well as all but a few soldiers on his own side) to ensure this would come to pass.

Wanda was able to utilize the Arkenpliers to acquire control of a large army in a single turn because she had the remarkable good fortune to attune to the Arkenpliers immediately after an army of thousands were croaked and before the bodies vanished. The fact that she acquired an Arkentool at the exact time and place where her new tool could provide her with vast power suggests that her belief that she was 'fated' to gain an Arkentool is correct.

Since she acquired the Arkenpliers, Wanda and her Decrypted Chief Warlord Ansom have defeated Unaroyal in the name of Lord Stanley. Their next target is Jetstone.

Relationships
Marie Lavraie
Wanda and Marie both served King Banhammer as Casters in Faq. Marie has profoundly affected Wanda, first by Predicting that she would someday acquire an Arkentool, and later by arranging for Wanda, and Gobwin Knob, to be the recipient of the Perfect Warlord spell which summoned Parson. Marie chose to give the spell to Wanda, despite the objections of Janis, who strongly disapproves of Wanda. The fact that she survived the fall of Faq suggests that Marie may have known of Wanda's plan to lure Stanley to Faq, either because Wanda told her about the plan in advance, or because she Predicted it herself.
Wanda may be the single greatest threat to Charlie's survival, because Wanda is trying to start an ideological war. As long as War is simply a matter of different sides competing for economic resources, then most Royals will not hesitate to hire a non-Royal Mercenary like Charlie, if it seems profitable to do so. But by spreading the idea that there is an inherent ideological conflict between Royals and Units attuned to the Arkentools, Wanda is damaging Charlie's ability to persuade Royals to hire him.
Wanda does not know her ultimate Fate, though she believes she must gather together all of the Arkentools. But if the Titans believe that their creation has outlived its usefulness, then it may be Wanda's Fate to perform the ultimate act of Naughtymancy by destroying Erfworld. Given that all of the Arkentools were used to create Erfworld, it may be that all of them are needed to destroy it as well. It may be that Marie understands Wanda's Fate, but believes, as a Predictamancer, that it is not her place to try and stop the Titan's will. It may be that Marie arranged for the Ultimate Warlord to come to Erfworld so that he might unknowingly insure that Wanda achieved her Fate.If this is the case, then she has mislead Janis by persuading her that summoning Parson will result in the end of War on Erfworld. Of course, the end of Erfworld would also mean the end of war on Erfworld, so perhaps she has not explicitly lied to Janis.

Other Speculation
Wanda informed Parson after the Battle of Gobwin Knob that her real loyalty is not to Stanley, but to Fate. The question is, what does she believe it is her fate to do?

Wanda knew that she was fated to one day attune to an Arkentool, but did not know which Tool it would be, or exactly how this would be accomplished. This suggests she has not been in direct contact with Marie Lavraie. However, now that at least part of her Prediction has been achieved, she may try to seek out further contact with her.

Her willingness to continue working with Stanley, even though she now has an Arkentool of her own, suggests her future goals require at least two Arkentools. It's possible that she will try to acquire other Arkentools for other members of her side, such as Sizemore, Jack, or Maggie.

Many believe that Wanda looks eerily similar to Ashna.

Real World References
Her name is a pun on "wand of fireball", a fairly common magic item in "Dungeons & Dragons" and other fantasy games.

Depending on pronunciation, her last name also becomes "firebug", a slang term meaning someone who relishes causing destruction, especially through the usage of fire.
A very prophetic last name indeed, given the pivotal role she plays in the Volcano Uncroaking.

Croatan tribe that Wanda hails from really existed and is really lost.

It was pointed out that a company named Zhejiang Wanda Tools Co. Ltd specializes in making pliers.

Her name has been used as a reference to the film, A Fish Called Wanda; however, there are no obvious parallels between the movie (the fish Wanda or the character Wanda Gershwitz) and Wanda Firebaugh.
Some have speculated that the death of the fish called Wanda at the hands of Jillian Zamussels may be foreshadowing a similar fate for Wanda.
One of the Arkentools. They were known to have been attuned to Judy Gale of the Haffaton Side. The Arkenshoes give the attuned wielder unlimited move and even the power to teleport their user to wherever it is that they consider "home".

When used by Judy Gale to return home, the items she was carrying shattered and crumbled to the floor, but the Arkenshoes disappeared with her.

Speculation
The Arkenshoes are the only Arkentool that consists of a pair of items. Whether there is any significance to this is unknown.

Their power over movement and location might be connected to Weirdomancy or Hat Magic.

In the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy decided to return home, the Silver Shoes came off over the desert border, because they only held power in fairy lands like Oz and couldn't enter the mundane world. It is very likely that there was a similar effect on the Arkenshoes when Judy Gale returned to her own world.

Real World References
The shoes are a reference to the Silver Shoes once worn by the wicked witch of the East and given to Dorothy in the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The fact that the Arkenshoes are red is likely a reference to one of the movie adaptations, in which they are called the Ruby Slippers instead.

Proposed Canon

Efbaum is a Level 5 Haffaton City. It lies at the end of a yellow road and is Emerald in hue. It was once the Capital of the most powerful Side in Erfworld and run by Charlie. It is the location of the Olive Garden where Judy Gale, the Overlord of Haffaton, is kept imprisoned.

Speculation
Judy Gale refers to it as 'old el-Efbaum,' which may suggest that the city has been renamed, that Efbaum is a nickname or that it was sacked during its conquest by Haffaton, rebuilt and given a new, very similar name.

Real-World References
The City is, of course, related to the Emerald City from the Wizard of Oz and presumably named for the author of that story L. Frank Baum.

Its name may sound like 'F-Bomb' when spoken aloud.

Judy refers to the city as 'old el-Efbaum.' Since 'el' means 'the' in Spanish, this effectively makes the city's name 'the Efbaum,' simultaneously incorporating L. F. Baum's name and 'the F-Bomb.'
First Appearance: TBFGK 42 (voiceover dialog only); LIAB 39 (presence represented by various avatars)

Charlie is the Ruler of Charlescomm, a Side in Erfworld. Charlie is not Royal, so he is an Overlord. The following is known from the decrypted Archons: Charlescomm is the only city possessed by Charlie's side and is level 5; Charlie pops only Archons, of which he had just over 600 at the time of TBfGK; the only other units who are permanently on his side are golems, of which there were about 700 at the time of TBfGK; Charlie often hires casters from the Magic Kingdom for specific jobs, though he does not pop them.

Charlie is attuned to a powerful artifact - the Arkendish, one of four known Arkentools.

He was once known as the wizard and ruler of Efbaum, the strongest side of its time, but was ultimately overthrown by Haffaton. While Judy Gale was supposed to croak him, she let him go because she appreciated his charm and he went on to found Charlescomm.

Other than these facts, nothing else is known about Charlie. He apparently never leaves the main tower of Charlescomm, where he lives with a personal guard of Archons who are rarely seen by any of Charlescomm's normal soldiers. All communication with Archons or clients is done through the Arkendish, where Charlie only manifests as a "calm male voice" sometimes accompanied with "a slowly changing pattern of soothing colors." 2009 All existing Charlescomm units have popped during Charlie's rule, and none of them know where Charlie came from beforehand or where he acquired the Arkendish from. Charlie does not permit questions about himself, from either his units or clients. 2009

Charlie has made a magical deal with Parson and has the ability to force Parson to make twelve mathamancy calculations on Parson's Mathamancy Bracer. So far, Charlie has spent four of these on:

*Two calculations on the strength of Gobwin Knob vs. hypothetical Archon attacks. These calculations were requested immediately after the deal was made.1
*One calculation on the odds of Gobwin Knob still standing after at the end of the current turn.1
*One calculation on the odds that forfeiting the eight remaining calculations would be a fair exchange for learning why the Archon units lost at Gobwin Knob now fight for Stanley. The calculation (a 4.14% chance of the exchange being worth it) led Charlie to refuse the deal. This calculation backfired: it taught Parson how to use his bracer to perform sophisticated calculations (and meta-calculations) on abstract future events.2009

Charlie's Rules
The Archons in Charlie's employ have to follow a set of rules. They are somewhat reminiscent of the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition though, given Rule #3, not quite as extreme. The comparison is loose, at best, and there has been no in comic comparison by Parson yet. The following rules are known:
* Charlie's Rule #3: We are in the business of solving problems for our clients. Corollary: Creating problems for our clients creates business.
* Charlie's Rule #9: If they swing, make 'em miss. If they flee, make 'em run somewhere worse. But if they just stand there, pull the rug out from under 'em.
* Charlie's Rule #15: Some things are more important than money. Corollary: Most things are not more important than money.
* Charlie's Rule #17: Don't bet on the lame runner, unless you know you can shoot the healthy one. Corollary: Betting on the healthy runner and shooting the lame one is the better bet.
* Charlie's Rule #19: Charlie's rules need to be bent sometimes. (Presumed Corollary: Most of the time Charlie's rules do not need to be bent. Alternate corollary: Other rules need to be bent most of the time.)

Relationships
The Magic Kingdom
Charlie maintains an excellent reputation as an employer with most of the inhabitants of The Magic Kingdom.2009

Temple of the Thinkamancers
However, the Thinkamancers of the Magic Kingdom , led by The Great Minds that Think Alike, oppose Charlie because he knows too many of their secrets about Thinkamancy. The Thinkamancers may have helped create the Summon Perfect Warlord Spell as part of their plan to eliminate Charlie.

Wanda
Wanda's attunement to the Arkenpliers poses a very serious threat to Charlie's existence. As long as War is simply a matter of different sides competing for economic resources, then most Royals will not hesitate to hire a non-royal Mercenary like Charlie, if it seems profitable to do so. But by allowing Ansom to spread the idea that there is an inherent ideological conflict between Royals and Units attuned to the Arkentools, Wanda damaged Charlie's ability to persuade Royals to hire him.

Charlie's primary objective at the Assault on Jetstone was to have Wanda croaked, in order to discredit Toolism. But Jillian's revelation that Wanda does not hate Charlie and would probably even be willing to work for him could dramatically change Charlie's relationship with Wanda.

Parson Gotti
Queen Jillian
Prince Tramennis
Charlie sees Tramennis as someone he could potentially work with. He's given Tramennis most of the information he has on Parson for free, and offered a sufficiently large reward for croaking or capturing the Archons who were decrypted to allow Tramennis to become Jetstone's heir. If he could establish a strong enough working relationship with Tramennis, he might decide to end his secret alliance with Jillian, who has shown herself to be dangerously unpredictable. Unfortunately for Charlie, though, Tramennis is proving to be as willful about following his own agenda as Jillian. He has decided to ignore Charlie's strong recommendation that he not parley with Gobwin Knob.

Speculation
The Arkendish gives him unmatched abilities in Thinkamancy1, but the extent of these abilities is not described. It may explain his ability to hack into the supposedly secure Eyebooks.1 It may also explain his understanding of Parson's Real World leetspeak chat lingo in Eyebook messages, if its power extends to reading surface thoughts at long range, or through the Eyebook which already provides that function, though his largely unknown background from before his possession of the Arkendish might hold that explanation. If the Arkendish can intercept messages sent by other Thinkamancers, it would explain how he learned that Queen Jillian had rebuilt Faq.

Maggie and some other people in Erfworld consider Charlie enigmatic and bizarre.1 Stanley the Plaid has, in Wanda's words, a "strong personal dislike for Charlie."1

It is possible that Charlie is actually from Parson's World. This would also explain his understanding of Parson's references. It would also explain his "playing style": a power-player with cheat codes (the Arkendish) creating an unbalanced side (Charlescomm, with no farms or mines or regular troops) and a highly-specialized unbalanced unit-class (the Archons).

Charlie is not a loyal person as the term is normally used, and is content to play just about all Sides so that he ends up maximizing his Side's gain during a negotiation; however, to protect Charlescomm's reputation, he does not break alliances outright, nor will he abandon an Alliance that has ended a contract. He has been known to make his services prohibitively expensive, in order to avoid the appearance that he is contracting with the Side opposing a previous employer in a conflict. This is inconsistent with normal mercenary behavior, and may help explain the confusion other Erfworlders have concerning his reliability.

Charlie provides his employees with significant freedom in providing their services to clients. Employees are permitted to provide freebies or not, at their own discretion.

Charlie seems to be pretty good at remembering his underlings' names, as opposed to Stanley, at least when remembering his archons' names.

After the Battle of Gobwin Knob, most of the members of the Royal Crown Coalition believe he is working with Stanley and refuse to deal with him. However, he has managed to form a tentative alliance with Queen Jillian.

Parson suspects that Charlie is directly behind the gobwins being missing from Gobwin Knob. This might be a form of psychological subterfuge to undermine Parson's role in GK's affairs, as Charlie and Parson are intellectual adversaries, while Ansom, the current chief warlord is more of a nuisance. Given Stanley the Tool's responses, this seems the most likely explanation.

If there are any male Archons in Charlie's service, then one of them may be named Bosley.

Though Charlie is universally referred to by male pronouns, it may be that "he" is in fact female. In , the video Thinkagram shown to Prince Sammy flickers to a "ghostly female face" before settling on the city of Haggar. Since Charlie communicates directly via the Arkendish and not through a Thinkamancer unit, there should be no one else in the Thinkagram circuit, so it is plausible that this female face belonged to Charlie. (Hiding even gender, as a detail of personal identity, would be very much in character for Charlie.) Alternatively, it could have just been the Archon spying on Haggar's capital &mdash; Charlie called the Archon (causing her face to appear briefly for the outgoing thinkagram) and asked her to open a thinkagram to him so that he could relay what she was seeing to Prince Sammy "live". [This doesn't rule out Charlie being female of course but this particular piece of evidence is not very strong.]

Charlie may have spies in the Magic Kingdom. The dossier on Parson that Charlie gave to Prince Tramennis spoke of Parson entering the Magic Kingdom. The only way he could have acquired this information is if someone in the Magic Kingdom told him. (That same briefing spoke of Parson as being a Mathamancer, making no mention of Parson's Bracer. It's possible that Charlie still has plans to steal the Bracer for himself, or simply doesn't want Tramennis or his side knowing about the bracer.)

Some Erfworld fans postulate that Charlie isn't a unit attuned to the Arkendish, but is the Dish itself.

Proposed Canon
First Appearance: IPTSF Text 50

Judy Gale was Overlord of Haffaton.

Some, but seemingly not all, Casters have the title of Lord or Lady, and may be Noble Units.

* Lord Ace Hardware - Jetstone, Caster

Delphie Temple is referred to as the Lady Temple, but is known not to be a sister/daughter of other Goodminton Nobles. This shows that casters are not by default noble, and the title of Lord/Lady can be purely honorific in nature. This could be perhaps because she was at one point Chief Caster.

Known Ignoble Units
Kingdom of Faq
* Jack Snipe - Jack (or Knave) was his title, not his name; this indicates a position of a servant. It is not a military rank or official position, however, and fulfills the same purpose of a noble title. Practically, Snipe enjoyed the same treatment as Lady Wanda Firebaugh, as both were Casters. That he is given a title at all is interesting, as it is seemingly rare; most non-noble units simply use military ranks for the purposes of hierarchy and social interaction.

Speculation
Royals can probably only be created in a capital city, while Nobles can be created in any city which is part of a side led by a Royal. It probably takes longer to create a Royal than any other type of unit, though Turnamancy can accelerate this process. The social rank of a Noble probably correlates to the size of the city in which he was popped, so a Duke comes from a big city, (maybe the Capital) and a Viscount comes from a very small city. Caesar Borgata, a Viscount, is described as being "barely a Noble", suggesting that a Duke is likely to have slightly higher initial stats than a Count, who is likely to be slightly higher than a Viscount.

It's possible free will is a innate trait to Royals, as most of the non-Ruler royals are described as ornery and contrary to their progenitor's wishes.

Many Royal and Noble Characters (especially Prince Ansom before his Decryption) believe Royalty and Nobility are the signs of Titanic mandate to rule. In fact, the purpose of Royal Crown Coalition was to defend this belief against Stanley, who believes Titans favor those with the Arkentools.

All known Royals are warlords, but it has been implied that it is possible for Royals to be Casters as well.
