=Upkeep=

Upkeep will be governed by the following rules:-<br>
1. The base unit for upkeep is an infantry unit, at 10S per turn<br>
2. When a unit levels it adds half its base upkeep, for example a level 9 piker = (10 + 5*8) = 50 schmuckers per turn<br>
3. Warlords upkeep is 10 times that of an equivalent levelled unit, for example Jillian, a level 9 warlord (10+5*8)*10 = 500 schmuckers per turn<br>
4. Special abilites such as Heavy, Flying etc can be added to a unit for an increase in upkeep.<br>
5. If you have provisions, upkeep is reduced by 70% rounded up.<br>

As stated elsewhere in canon, a warlords purse is level * 1000.

==Upkeep per Turn Formula==
Schmuckers per Turn = B*(1 + (L-1)/2)*W

Where B is the Base Unit Upkeep - the amount for a level 1 unit of that type.
L is their level, and W is 10 if they are a warlord, 1 otherwise.

===Dancefight is a sign of unusual ambition===

Dancefight is not an inherent ability, but something that must be learnt. But because that means to admit that they are not perfect, most royals don't bother to learn. Stanley, Wanda, Vinny, Charley or Jillian don't have such sentiments. This willingness to improve themselves is also a prerequisite to attune to an arkentool. <br>
Stanley put effort into learning dancefight when he was infantry and was so successful that he was promoted to warlord.
: Ansom knows how to Dancefight (or, rather, Dance, Dance, Revolution! Fight) and was unable to attune to the Arkenpliers. I don't think dancefighting shows a "willingness to improve oneself" that distinguishes those who can attune from those who cannot.--[[User:Wrecan|Wrecan]] 21:10, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
:: No, Dance, Dance, Revolution!-Fighting does not require the same willingness to improve oneself. Ansom was not able to lead his troops in dance-fighting until he was guided by the Archons. Typical for a noble, he found a shortcut to doing something that would otherwise require a willingness to learn and a commitment to practice. -- [[User:Yehonatan|Yehonatan]] 19:34, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

'''Unusual exuberance, you mean.''' Wanda learned to dance-fight in Faq. But because there was no fighting before Jillian, and Faq was such a bubble kingdom, there was only one dance they learned... [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rW6M8D41ZWU The YATTA! Dance.] (Warning: The link should not be watched by the weak of stomach, or in the act of drinking.)--[[User:BarGamer|BarGamer]] 21:18, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

===Decrypted and Upkeep===
Decrypted "steal" upkeep from their original side. Thus, Ansom has no upkeep. However, if Wanda decrypts a Gobwin Knob unit, it has normal upkeep. Only the wielder of the ArkenPliers can disband Decrypted, making a Decrypted unit part of an economic warfare initiative.--[[User:BarGamer|BarGamer]] 18:24, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

==Silly==

===Bad Acid===
Ashna spiked Parson's Peeps with some bad acid. Parson's Klog #1 was RIGHT, this IS all a bad hallucinatory dream, a modern-day 'Wizard of Oz' or the more apt 'Alice in Wonderland,' complete with political commentary and bad puns. The trouble is, Parson doesn't get to escape and come back again before Book 2 comes out, because his RL body overdosed on it, or perhaps his immune system is just that weak, and he's in a permanent coma. (Or however long Jamie and Rob can ride this GravyTrain. XD)--[[User:BarGamer|BarGamer]] 21:18, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
[[Category:Speculation]]
====Dreamscale time====
To build on that, the entirety of book 1 might take place only within a few minutes of real time. Parson dreams very quickly.
====Seems the other gamers also had some====
One general problem with that theory is that the narrative regularly cuts away from Hamster, showing stuff he doesn't know about. For events within Erf, this could perhaps be explained away as the workings of his subconscious mental gamemaster; but in the last three panels of {{erf|1|016}}, set entirely in Stupidworld, the gaming group witnesses and comments on Parson's disappearance.

===Rejected Uncroaked Ansom===
The authors have really let something slip, here. The Arkenplier's creature focus is not Uncroaked... But the entire Side of Transylvito, which Ansom clearly resembled with his glowing red eyes, black motif, and unhealthy-looking skin. In fact, that was one of the reasons why Vinny and, by association, Transylvito joined the Coalition: Even when not attuned, the bearer of the ArkenPliers can inspire feelings of Loyalty, Obedience, and Duty (LOaD) in Transylvito units. This is proved by {{erf|1|042|Panel 9: 'I hereby revoke your permission to ask me difficult questions.'}}--[[User:BarGamer|BarGamer]] 21:18, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

I mean, Uncroaked are alright, but thinking, active Sides in your Alliance are something else, as proved by the Archon's similar LOaD to Charlie. In addition to being able to be popped like normal units, Transylvito units can also 'convert' others to their Side like Caesar Borgata threatened to do to Jillian in the last comic that he was featured in, by drinking the victim's blood, and making them drink Transylvito blood. If a unit is not Uncroaked, and another Transylvito unit is not nearby to assist in this, the ArkenPliers can do this directly by physically (Ansom's probable favored tactic)or Magically (Wanda's probable favored tactic) pulling on the victim's canines, making them longer.--[[User:BarGamer|BarGamer]] 21:18, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
===Jillian and Stanley screwed up with fate===

It was destined to collect all the arkentools in [[Faq]]. [[Jillian]] was the supposed wielder of the arkenhammer, and [[Stanley]] no more than a tool to bring it to her. Later she was supposed to find the arkenpliers and bring them to [[Wanda]]. The arkendish was supposed to go to [[Jack]]. A fourth known arkentool was reserved for the unnamed predictamancer of Faq.

Unfortunately Jillian was naughty and ignored an order to come home in the right time, thus condeming Faq and the predictamancer to obliteration. The arkenhammer felt that, became bored and choose Stanley as its wielder. --[[User:Welf von Ehrwald|Welf von Ehrwald]] 16:32, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

=Speculation=

Ansom's reanimation brought him back to a very close semblance of life, possibly with some missing memories, but with his skill set intact. While he still feels love for [[Jetstone]] and [[Jillian]], these emotions are entirely overwhelmed by the love and devotion he feels for his "Mistress" [[Wanda]]].

Ansom is the [[Lineage|son]] of King Slately (in the sense of being specifically [[pop|popped]] as a royal [[heir]] by King Slately's order). He has at least two brothers, [[Prince Ossomer]] and [[Prince Tramennis]].

As of Summer Update 33, his attack strength appears to be 15 without Leadership bonuses, unless he has some as-yet unmentioned bonuses or his own Leadership doesn't apply to himself. If his own Leadership applies, his basic attack strength is 25.

==Plot==
Prince Ansom's coalition forces included several sides including his own Jetstone tribe, other Royal-ruled tribes, various allied tribes of [[Elves]], and [[Marbits]], as well as a small [[barbarian]] force, chiefly [[Jillian Zamussels]], and, at times, some [[Charlescomm]] forces, in a mercenary capacity. His goal was to conquer Stanley's last remaining city and put an end to him. As the story began, he anticipated an easy victory, given the massive numerical superiority of his forces and Stanley's history of inept [[leadership]].

His publicly declared reason for leading the fight was to rid the world of Stanley's "great evil" (several of the other coalition members have been attacked by Stanley, though Jetstone itself has suffered only minor skirmishes with him prior to the current war according to Vinny). However, [[Vinny Doombats]] suspected that his real motivation is that he disliked how Stanley's rose from common infantry unit to [[Ruler]]. Ansom would deflect the question rather than answer it, giving the impression that the suspicion was correct.

Ansom strongly believed in the special status of royalty and nobility, considering it to be part of the right and proper order of things. This manifests as a strong sense of noblesse oblige and personal courage. On the other hand, it fed his tendency toward overconfidence and caused him to underestimate his "inferiors". The latter aspect of Ansom's personality was exploited by Parson as part of his plan to lead him into [[Parson's_Siege_Raids|a trap]].

He was in possession of, but was not attuned to, the [[Arkenpliers]]. Even unattuned, they have the ability to "turn most uncroaked to dust" but in his hands, showed no quirks like the Arkenhammer's ability to turn walnuts into birds and vice versa.

Ansom was ambushed by a [[veil|veiled]] [[Bogroll]], who was pretending to surrender as [[Parson]]. The [[twoll]] tackled him off of the [[Tower of Efdup]], and thus Ansom was [[Croaked|croaked]]. Bogroll died moments later, burned by the mob of enraged [[Royal Crown Coalition|RCC]] troops in the [[City#Known City Zones|Courtyard]].

Following the [[Volcano Uncroaking]], Ansom's corpse came into the possession of [[Wanda Firebaugh]], who had recovered the [[Arkenpliers]] and attuned to them. She proceeded to [[decrypt|raise]] Ansom, but the result was very different than previous [[uncroaked|uncroakings]]. Ansom returned as a Level 10 [[Warlord]], with nearly intact memory, an unknown but large amount of independence and volition, no upkeep cost, and will not decay. His visual appearance was not significantly changed, although his personal symbol of radishes were replaced with skulls. Superficially, he appears as a living [[Men|human]]. Mentally, however, he had changed greatly. Ansom was now loyal to his "Mistress" Wanda and has renounced his previous prejudices in favor of [[Royal|Royalty]]. Specifically, he agrees with [[Parson Gotti|Parson's]] statement declaring royalty to be "obsolete" -- a statement intended as an insult calculated to fluster and anger him into recklessness, but which Ansom now considers to be a sign that Parson spoke for the [[Titans]] themselves. Ansom is currently the [[Chief Warlord]] of [[Gobwin Knob]] and desires to take over the world in order to demonstrate his value to Wanda, and hopefully gain her love.

=Real World References=
Ansom's name is likely a play on the "Handsome Prince" and "[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Charming Prince Charming]", archetypal characters common in fairy tales. The combination gives "Prince Handsome". The three brothers Tramennis, Ossomer, and Ansom all use the same naming convention (slurred pronunciations of Tremendous, Awesomer, and Handsome respectively) in keeping with the pattern of related characters having related names.
<br />

When in battle Ansom dresses like real-world daredevil [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evel_Knievel Evel Knievel], particularly when he is performing stunts{{erf|1|062}}.

Shortly after his decryption he asks to be reffered to as "The warlord formerly known as Prince". This is a reference to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_(musician) the artist formerly known as prince].
The Tower of Efdup was a structure in the [[City#City_Zones|Garrison]] of [[Gobwin Knob]]. It somewhat resembled an air traffic control tower with a spire on top.{{erf|1|023}} The Tower was considered a [[zone]] of the garrison for the purpose of [[Unit]] [[Movement]]. It could only be attacked from Airspace and other [[City#City_Zones|Garrison]] [[zone]]s.{{Erf|1|116a|'Garrison zone has three parts: Tower, Courtyard, and Dungeon. ===Interior===
The tower consisted of several distinctive sections:
*a section above ground level up to a round observation platform
*the observation platform and parapet
*a spire above the observation platform
The observation platform contained:
:That's really weak. And it is doubtful that a gamer would make a point of suggesting a sexual relationship in this instance. It suggests he isn't keeping it professional. It's important to a GM to remain objective and fair to all players, so referencing such a relationship in the presence of others is a very unprofessional choice. Parson is, we are lead to believe, the ultimate gamer, or at least the best gamer that would be willing to give up his life on Earth. Even thinking about a sexual relationship with a player ought to make his skin crawl, but if he did break down and give in, he would never hint at it in front of the other males, revealing the possibility of impropriety. It may be that Ashna has known him for longer, but this can be adequately explained by the fact that only Ashna is bringing up the subject. She asks and so he responds to her only: he may merely believe the other three don't need the explanation. Parson is a thinker, and this is merely Parson telling Ashna that she doesn't need to ask, because she is already aware of everything she needs to know to answer the question. Nothing he uses to epxplain isn't obvious to we the readers, and is far more obvious to his friends. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 15:51, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

== Who controls Parson? ==

I've seen some debate over who actually Parson most obey, Wanda or Stanley. I haven't seen this comic mentioned before but in the last panel of http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/?px=%2F020.jpg it looks like Wanda is issuing a command that P. should use Tool, not Lord. What do you think of that?

-Nope. Wanda's comment "you'll only use that word again," is a response to Parson's question, not a command. She means, "If I tell you how bad it is, you'll only swear ("use that word," boop) again."

==Disbanding==
I removed a sentence that someone added suggesting that Parson was disbanded without being "removed from the world". Sorry, man, but we do '''not''' know the effect of Disbanding. We do know that there is a Barbarian state. Disbanding may be a process whereby a unit becomes a barbarian. But that it disappears? Disbanding in our world merely means leaving the group you're in and wandering off home, '''not''' death. We do know that units are required to run farms, so disbanding to leave the military can mean the unit stops being military and becomes rural. We just do not know what the term means, and so using the term must be open enough to cover all possible definitions.<br>
--[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 14:01, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
:We don't know for sure, but it doesn't seem to me that Sizemore would be all that alarmed about being disbanded (if they crossed Stanley's path after he told them to get out of his sight) if it just meant becoming a barbarian. [[User:SteveMB|SteveMB]] 15:05, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
::A barbarian without money to provide upkeep? Being a barbarian is ''not'' easy. Parson, as a barbarian, may die from starvation fairly quickly. In teh MK, they've got friends that may help them out, but that's not for Parson, as we saw. I'm not saying that being a barbarian is easy: it's hard, and a lot harder if you lack any units to support you, and have no reputation you can use to gain mercenary employment. Further, he'd be an unallied unit, in the midst of thousands of unled troops. Auto-attack rules come into effect -- he will die if disbanded inside GK, but not from the effect of disbanding, but from basic sword thrusts. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 16:19, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
:::I don't think either Sizemore or Parson would have any trouble quickly striking an alliance or turning to a side if they went barbarian. Also, as noted above, Sizemore could probably just go to the MK (if he could make it to a portal... not sure how that would go). Sizemore definitely seemed in fear for their lives, and Parson surmizes in a Klog that Stanley has the ability to essentially kill him with a thought. Together, this seems to me enough evidence to guess that Disbanding is equivalent to death (or at least appears that way to the denizens of Erfworld), though we don't know the exact mechanics of how it works. [[User:Commander I. Heartly Noah|Commander I. Heartly Noah]] June 10 2009, 17:51 (UTC)
Disbanding came back again, this time while "still working for Stanley". Snip as being a purely theoretical state of existence unsupported by the comic. If he had disbanded, he would not be on Side, and he would be getting auto-attacked by any unlead unit. Parson is still on GK Side. Oh, yeah... Stanley wouldn't have to pay his upkeep anymore, he'd have to do that himself, and that would get noticed. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 06:50, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
==Garrison?==

Removed "Garrison" from Parson's special abilities. Though he has not left the city yet, there is no reason to assume now that he can't. I would be much surprised if any Warlord could be a Garrison unit. [[User:Commander I. Heartly Noah|Commander I. Heartly Noah]] June 22, 2009, 17:59 (UTC)
::I agree with that decision, but on the subject of Garrison... it may be a temporary thing. Bogroll is a Garrison unit, but nothing physically stops him from leaving GK. Garrison may be added when assigned to the Garrison, and not a permanent state. So Parson might have Garrison for the moment, but not later. We will see.--[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 06:59, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
:He has difficulty moving around one hex, it's unlikely he can get to another. Plus, given all of his similarities to Bogroll, it seems likely that the unit type he is, is more likely not to go off around the world when he's controlling everything from the capitol. I think he should be considered garrison until proven in the story otherwise. - [[Special:Contributions/99.250.113.130|99.250.113.130]] 19:15, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
::But he hasn't ''attempted'' to leave the City yet. There's no reason to believe he's incapable of it until we see some evidence. Oh wait, yeah, he did - when he went through the portal to the Magic Kingdom. Not a long hike, but definitely out of the hex. His similarities to Bogroll? You mean that they're both tall and fat? How about that other twoll who was out in the field, and therefore clearly not a Garrison unit? Isn't he ''more'' similar than Parson? And ''to'' Parson, come to think of it, since they both have two eyes. Plus, getting around so laboriously is supposed to be evidence of him not fitting the rules, not of him being constrained by them. Maybe, instead of having a Move value, he can move as far as he's physically able. Oh yeah - Bogroll is a Garrison unit and doesn't get tired, so why is Parson's poor fitness indication that he's a Garrison unit? And the idea that Parson would be best served by staying in the city is no evidence that he can't leave. And all of that aside, we should default to assuming a special circumstance (like having a particular Natural Ability) is ''not'' the case until shown otherwise, not the other way around. [[User:Commander I. Heartly Noah|Commander I. Heartly Noah]] June 23, 2009, 01:43 (UTC)
:::Additionally, by breaking the hold of the Thikamancy in the Summon Spell, might he have begn the process of freeing himself from the game mechanics? As a player, he needs to remove the limitation of operating inside the system. He has to operate from above it. He may, ultimately, have to breach a Hex Wall. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 06:59, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
We are allowed to ''speculate'', yes? I hereby speculate that he ''is'' a garrison unit, and he may also ''potentially'' be a noble. When asked by Stanley on page 24, he is ''officially'' named Lord Hamster. Ansom later claims that this title means nothing, but Ansom is not infallible. Given Parson's quick adapting skills and his ability to attempt to metagame (when he meets Misty, he's trying to) it could be said that he's doing things better, and potentially levelling (without visible stats, nobody can tell) both are things Ansom has said nobles do better. - [[User:NemFX|NemFX]] 06:24, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
:There's a difference between Speculation and Pet Theories. If you want to pull somethign out of thin air, try it on the Forum first, and then if there's some positive feedback, consider putting it here. But if it's not got any support at all, there are a lot more people that disagree that can remove it than will put it back. Fantasize as much as you want, just not whee people are supposed to come to answer their questions. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 06:40, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
===Dancefight is a sign of unusual ambition===

The trouble is, Parson doesn't get to escape and come back again before Book 2 comes out, because his RL body overdosed on it, or perhaps his immune system is just that weak, and he's in a permanent coma. ====Dreamscale time====
To build on that, the entirety of book 1 might take place only within a few minutes of real time.

===Rejected Uncroaked Ansom===

Further, it would get into Undo Wars as various people delete things they consider insane. So, if you want to discuss a theory, do it on the forums first, gauge how many poeple truly support it vs. those that do not, and then put it in the WIki if there's a reasonable positive response: no one is truly capable of determining the "reasonableness" of their own theories. We are not objective judges of our own ideas. The forums are designed for long, drawn out discussions, so if its at all controversial, bounce it around first, because you can. Remember, we all have to play here, and that includes deletion as well as addition, so we don't get to interpret everything the way we want it to be. We've done it this way so that we can keep the Wiki usable by those that are seeking accurate information. Basically, if you can't find any proof of a theory, it's not good enough for even Spec.<br>

{{pager int|3|First_Intermission}}

Turns since TBfGK: 1

Baring his teeth into the wind, Stanley shook his head and swooped down again. The place was unrecognizable! He could see Hamster, Maggie, and the...tunneler, the one who did toilet duty, Sideways or whatever his name was, on the new parapet of the new tower. But he didn't feel like buzzing them just yet.

He just kept swinging low over the new walls, the strange, powerful blocks of stone and mortar. The city was full of infantry, wearing white, black, red and...pink? Not enemies, Maggie'd told him. These were his forces, however weird they looked.

Banners were hanging all over the place with some kind of new logo: his own image, with a star-and-beams design. When he became an Overlord, he'd said that crests were Royalist and he wasn't going to have one. So who came up with this? He kind of liked it.

He circled and surveyed. There was the lake of lava, there was the stately, ornamented garrison, there was the new main gate, there was the lake again...

Where was Wanda?

Close behind Stanley as they circled, Jack and the Knight rode their puffing mounts. (Vurp. The Knight's name was Vurp. He was trying to get better about names.) He could hear the whip-snap of leather wings behind him, but those two knew better than to say anything when he was thinking.

Maybe Wanda was in the tower.

The Tool brought them in from Hamster's blind side, intending to pop up dramatically on the new perches. But as they neared the garrison, he got a closer look at the gleaming special regiments assembled for him below. Right, the Courtyard. That had to be Wanda, standing with a...blond warlord.

Oh. Oh, let that be Prince Ansom.

Stanley the Tool of the Titans nosed his dwagon over, and dropped into a dramatic dive.

::I have to disagree. I know that what I was initially doing was too mcuh, but one link per page is far too little. There is nothing as frustrating as reading a 20 page Wikipedia article, finding an intriguing name, and then not being able to click on it. As already noted on the page, this isn't ideal – in fact, good practice for HTML would have exactly one of these per page, as the page title (which the wiki software already does). Rather than massive headings, I'm actually thinking that we should put together some little templates (a la the Wikipedia Spoiler templates of old) to mark sections of the page as being of whatever canon status and automagically include 'em in the proper categories for review. In fact, I might whip up something basic to illustrate. <tt>:)</tt> —[[User:Revenant|Revenant]][[User talk:Revenant|Talk]] 10:48, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
::When using color in a webpage, something too vivid or dark can be hard on the eyes, or just hard to read -- so it's really really important to be careful.
==Capitalization==

We need to standardize on the use of capitals. I'm putting them in, others taking them out, and it's would be better if things were consistent. There is a good reason to capitalize terms that have rules behind them. Take, for instance the term [[Turn]]. For the purpose of game rules, Turn has a particular meaning, but it has other meanings as well. I can turn the knob on a dial. In order to distinguish Turn vs. turn, most game systems capitalize Turn. I suggest that wherever a game term is being used, it should be capitalized for clarity.

The other alternative is to Link every use of a defined term, in every single instance. But instead of a single letter change ('This' instead of 'this'), that requires '((This|that))', which is more work.

The following are a short list of game terms that should be capitalized: Turn, Side, Capital, Unit, Stack, Combat, Defense, Warlord, Caster, Barbarian.
--[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 12:50, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Nothing more said against. SO terms to Capitalize: Unit, Stack, Hex, Commander, Warlord, Chief Warlord, Overlord, Caster, Move (as a stat), Combat (as a stat), Defense, Hits, Turn, Side, Movement (as Movement Hex-to-Hex, not movement inside a Hex). --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 05:23, 7 May 2009 (UTC)<br>
==References==
I found out why <ref> doesn't work. It requires an extension that has not been installed. See this [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Cite/Cite.php Page] on MediaWiki. If Rob ever adds this extension, we should get rid of the sup /sup methd and switch to proper referencing. Unless someone out there knows how to do it without that extension. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 12:58, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
:[[User talk:Balder#References|Indeed]]. I think our best bet if we want "proper" references is to use the older [[Wikipedia:Template:Ref|Ref]]/[[Wikipedia:Template:Note|Note]] system. If there is a little bit of block formatting or tables that is used over and over such as the stat blocks or the school of magic breakdown, please be sure to request a template. :::I think that most things that have shown up in the actual pages of the comic should not count as spoilers -- people can finish reading the comic before checking the wiki, and the wiki will look strange if 90% of it ends up being in white text. I think that future speculation should just be 'speculation', and put in that section, while specific commentary from the comic creators counts as 'spoiler' if it refers to future events. My 2 cents. [[User:R3u|R3u]] 20:45, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
::::I do not like GitP's def'n of spoiler. But, I think anyone reading the Wiki is going to see Spoilers. All of the Game Mechanics are spoilers for a new reader, and putting the entire definition of [[Turn]] into white text is, well, not desirable. I think it's best that when we get around to creating a Header for the pages that all headers just include a general spoiler warning, and then don't bother with worrying about anything specific in the text. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 20:29, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
:::::Added a fairly narrow definition of spoiler on the page - things revealed by the creators relating to the future comic direction. --[[User:Doran|Doran]] 20:37, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
::::::That's not the description of Spoilers. Spoilers are any events in the comic that a new reader would not be aware of. For instance, if I were standing in line for Empire Strikes Back and someone said as he left, "I can't believe Vader is Luke's dad!" then I was just spoiled. Spoilers are unavoidable on the Wiki, by its very nature. All those rules were spoilers, since they are based of events late in the BfGK that would spoil a new reader. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 20:46, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
:::::::Let me just cast my vote for the wiki to be written with the up-to-date reader as the audience. If you are starting from the beginning, you really should just read the whole comic. If you don't want to read the whole comic, then the wiki should provide you with the information you need to make sense of what is going on. In other words, I believe the entire wiki should be considered a spoiler. If we really have to, maybe part of the icon or a line on every page of the wiki should read, "Erfwiki is a spoiler. Read Erfworld first."--[[User:Fluffums|Fluffums]] 03:54, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
By 'spoilers', I mean an example such as [[Word_of_the_Titans#2198313|this on Word of the Titans]], not just anything you can get by reading the comic. I agree with the erfwiki as a spoiler, but i think anything relying on such as the above should be its slef hidden hbehind spoilers. --[[User:Doran|Doran]] 13:47, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
=== Uncroaked Character Images ===

For characters that start off alive, perform things, and only later become uncroaked of some variety -- do we want the pictures on their page to include pictures of them before uncroaking, after uncroaking, whichever way they spent the most of the story, or both? Could this count as a spoiler, in the case of people like Webinar and Dora, or does it not matter? [[User:R3u|R3u]] 20:45, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
:Wait on that until Spoiler decisions are made. If no spoilers allowed, then it has to be the first image only. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 20:35, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
::While this must wait until the spoiler decision is made, I suggest that with the Erfwiki-as-spoiler option we use a picture of the character's current or most recent form, and then include previous forms in a sub-section.--[[User:Fluffums|Fluffums]] 03:54, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
==Erworld Mechanics==
I have been stripping out mentions of specific people in Mechanics pages. Mechanics are rules, and so should be written as rules, not descriptions of what people have done. Those activities are references to support a proposed rule. So for isntance, "Parson can't see Level with his glasses, but others can." is not a rule. The rule is "Warlords can see the Level stat". Parson is an exception to the rule, anbd all of his exceptions should be shown on his page. Parson-specific exceptions are not rules, and should not be mentioned on mechanics pages.

As for writing rules... be definitive. "Apparantly" is not definitive: it is inconclusive. 'Apparant' comes from 'appears' which means you are simply stating an observation, and observations are mere references for rules, not rules themselves. If you think you know something because you interpret an image in a particular way, then say it with confidence! If we don't agree, well, we'll change it and you can argue it out on the forums or on the discussion page. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 20:43, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

==Naming Conventions==
I'm sure there are more, but I've noticed already pretty haphazard page naming. The first one that comes to mind is character names. We oughtn't use titles and pseudonyms in page names, because of the risk that a character's title will change. For example, had we been making this wiki from the beginning, Stanley's page would have been Stanley the Plaid. If we wanted to keep up with titles, we'd then have to move it to Stanley the Tool. If he then gets another arkentool and changes his name to Stanley the Toolbox, we'd have to move it again. If he's finally deposed and becomes just plain Stanley, there's another move. The logical manner to deal with this is just to put character pages under their name, and nothing more. Stanley, not Stanley the Tool. Manpower, not Manpower the Temporary. Et cetera. --[[User:Erk|Erk]] 20:53, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
:We don't have to move pages when names change. We can just make a redirect. It is not that I am really happy with [[Stanley the Tool]], but it is not a problem as long as [[Stanley]] and [[Stanley the Plaid]] redirect to it. It works fine.
:As for titles: following your logic we should move Archduke Ferdinand to Ferdinand. Do I get it right? Half of the titles used in the comics mean something. I doubt I would get the joke if the character is referred to Ferdinand or [[Manpower]] or [[Phat-Singh]]. Even if it is a title, it still has a critical importance.
:Anyway, let's wait and see. Things work as they are at the moment. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, they say. If Rob or Jamie decide that [[Manpower the Temporary]] should be moved to [[Manpower]], they can do it or tell us to do it. That is my opinion. -- [[User:Muzzafar|Muzzafar]] 07:24, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
::Well, I disagree with your reasoning: the humour of a name shouldn't be a factor in naming its article, because the article name is just a place to find the page. The name should be evidently funny and mentioned in its funny context within the page. Further, moving pages is not a substitute for bad naming conventions: mediawiki only supports a single redirection, after which it breaks. What I mean is, if we started with Stanley the Plaid, then moved it to Stanley the Tool, we'd be fine, but if we then moved it again to Stanley the Titan, all the old links to Stanley the Plaid would break. With minor characters like Archduke Ferdinand it's really trivial, but then, it's also really trivial to have him called Archduke Ferdinand throughout the article. The name of the page isn't what we have to refer to him as whenever we talk about him.
::That said, I asked the Balder, and he says multiple name changes will be so rare that we don't need to fuss about it, so we're cool: if it's not going to come up practically then I'm not concerned. Cheers! --> '''[[User:Erk|ERK!]]'''|[[User_talk:Erk|eyeBook me]] 15:50, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
:::A better example of where I think this is a problem is [[Prince Ansom]]. He's not a prince anymore, he's [[decrypted]], so he's just Ansom. Because the page was "prince ansom" before, now all the old wikilinks to "prince ansom" will be out of date. If the page had just been made as [[Ansom]] in the first place, and the initial ''text'' had made it clear he was Prince Ansom, this would not be a problem. --> '''[[User:Erk|ERK!]]'''|[[User_talk:Erk|eyeBook me]] 17:17, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
:So we're suffering a little from the prejudices of earlier authors. Deal. Ansom = Prince Ansom, so Ansom|Ansom the deCrypted still hits the same page. Or create a Redirect yourself for something you think should be defined. Most people will type "Jillian" into the Search, not "Jillian Zamussels", so as long as the short form is in the list, it'll work out just fine. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 05:17, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
::That was my point too. As long as all variations of the name redirect to one page it does not matter what the name of the page is (IMO). We can always move a page. Hell, if Rob or Jamie think that this is of critical importance, they would do it themselves. I'd say we still have other, more important things to do at the moment. -- [[User:Muzzafar|Muzzafar]] 21:30, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
:::I think you both missed where I said "we're cool: if it's not going to come up practically then I'm not concerned". I just think we need an organised convention for future pages, which will prevent any more work coming up at a later date. I am giving you examples of what I mean so that we may discuss.
:::And, once again, letting things lie with redirection is bad wiki practice. It leads to broken links that look like they work. This is not cool. --> '''[[User:Erk|ERK!]]'''|[[User_talk:Erk|eyeBook me]] 21:42, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

==Color Conventions==
I propose that we develop a standard palette for anything with a background color on Erfwiki. I further propose that we base the palette on the Erfworld palette, as this is fitting and will complement images from Erfworld. As an example, I have pulled RGB values from the dwagons featured in Erfworld:
* <span style="background-color:rgb(221,163,175)">Dwagon Pink = rgb(221,163,175)</span>
* <span style="background-color:rgb(199,61,61)">Dwagon Red = rgb(199,61,61)</span>
* <span style="background-color:rgb(209,200,97)">Dwagon Yellow = rgb(209,200,97)</span>
* <span style="background-color:rgb(109,165,116)">Dwagon Green = rgb(109,165,116)</span>
* <span style="background-color:rgb(84,109,165)">Dwagon Blue = rgb(84,109,165)</span>
* <span style="background-color:rgb(114,76,117)">Dwagon Purple = rgb(114,76,117)</span>
* <span style="background-color:rgb(73,51,53)">Dwagon Black = rgb(73,51,53)</span>
Even if we don't use these colors, I believe Erfwiki's aesthetic will be enhanced by a Erfworld-based palette.--[[User:Fluffums|Fluffums]] 04:44, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
:Having a predefined colour palette is a great idea. What do you propose we use dwagon colours for though? I think first we should decide what we'd be using these colours for, then decide what erfworld palette colours to swipe for them. --> '''[[User:Erk|ERK!]]'''|[[User_talk:Erk|eyeBook me]] 15:52, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
:I have no problems with that, but remember that any colour selected should be fine for black text to appear on. --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 05:14, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
:Currently, the stat boxes for units listing Move, Defense, and such are a nice blue. We also have Revenant's proposed section headers for Canon/Spectulation. Those are the only two places I know we're using color. For the stat box, we might try to match the color used in Klog #4 (http://www.erfworld.com/book-1-archive/?px=%2F040a.jpg). For the section headers, just about anything could probably be used. Kreistor brings up a good point about black text, but I like that the stat box matches the comic with white text.--[[User:Fluffums|Fluffums]] 06:40, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

==Move to ErfWiki:Style Guidelines==
We should get the Meta pages out of the regular wiki space and into the ErfWiki space, methinks. It's good wiki organisation. --> '''[[User:Erk|ERK!]]'''|[[User_talk:Erk|eyeBook me]] 03:59, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
== Images ==

A question I wanted to pose. I was thinking that images in some of the wikis here would be nice; not so much that they are strictly necessary (it's horribly unlikely that someone would see a wiki here before the relevant entry in the comic itself), but it strikes me that they would be beneficial in a few places. But obviously it's not my or any of our art, and regardless that you maintain/gain the rights of anything entered here, I figured this was a question better asked before rather than after. Oh, and I honestly haven't even checked to see if file uploads are an activated feature here yet, but who fusses over the little details like that? :P --[[User:OniExpress|OniExpress]] 01:34, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah Images are awesome and anything is fair game. I'm even going so far as to say I'm not going to question the use of copyrighted images we don't own until the owner objects to their use here, for now. That policy is subject to change. --[[User:Balder|Balder]] 06:32, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
==Canon, proposed canon and speculation==
Hi Rob! Several questions here:
*You created a page for [[Croaking]]. Can we automatically consider the text that you wrote a [[Canon]] since it is the "Word of God"?
*You have written quite a lot of information on the [http://www.giantitp.com/forums/ GitP forums]. I see it as pretty valuable for readers since it is the "Word of God", basically. I do not know about Rich's plans about the Erfworld forum on the GitP forums, but I assume there is a chance it might not last. Can we save your messages in some form in this Wiki, for example as [[Word of God]] article with references to the GitP forum posts? I guess it would make it possible to refer to it as to.. well, the Word of God. What do you think?
*<s>There is some information on this Wiki that is taken right from the comic (for example, magic disciplines in [[Magic]]). Would that be Speculation or Proposed Canon? Can unambiguous information with references to comic strips (like [[Caesar Borgata]] is [[Chief Warlord]] to [[Transylvito]][http://www.giantitp.com/comics/erf0125.html]) be considered Proposed Canon?</s><br>
I'm not sure about what type(s) the [[Parsons_Plans|Parson's plans]] article and related articles should be. ==Fan Created Stuff==
Rob, could you please add a section to the main page concerning people adding fan-created pages.
Someone added [[Feildebeat|these]] [[Boogiemen|ones]], so for now I added <nowiki>[[Category:Fan Created]]</nowiki> it, and added "Fan " in front of the categories. --[[User:Doran|Doran]] 00:24, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
:As per discussion with the Balder, I've expanded on your work, Doran. There are now three classes of fan material, with catchy names. [[ErfWiki:Fanon|Fanon]], [[ErfWiki:Banon|Banon]], and the intermediate [[ErfWiki:Forked Fanon|'forked up' fanon]]. Hope I got those more or less right, Rob; it's late so I may have jumbled something. --> '''[[User:Erk|ERK!]]'''|[[User_talk:Erk|eyeBook me]] 04:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
== Actual Game ==

Let me preface this by saying that I know that the comic and the game are separate. You are aiming to tell a story and its a darn good one so far.

However, as an avid gamer and amateur game designer, I can't help but notice there's a very compelling and rather robust system behind the story. I also see that you're a game designer by trade. I was wondering... Are there were plans to take the Erfworld setting/system and turn it into an ACTUAL game? I know that I would buy it if it was. I'm certain others would as well.

Just curious.

-Tug
:This wiki is going to be used to work out a final set of game mechanics and tables which is consistent with the comic, and internally logical as well. Then we can use that as the basis for several types of games, developed by third parties and/or fans, with my guidance. That's the theory, anyway. More direction on that coming in a little while.
