'''First Appearance:''' [[TBFGK 24]]

Maggie is an Adept-class [[Thinkamancer]], supposedly in the service of [[Stanley the Tool]]. However, she is a member of the Thinkamancer's conspiracy, and her real loyalty seems to be to the [[Great Minds that Think Alike]]. She used her magical powers against Stanley in order to compel him to make [[Parson]] [[Gobwin Knob]]'s [[Chief Warlord]], because she hopes to use Parson in the Thinkamancer's conflict with [[Charlie]].
Maggie initially seems very professional and self-controlled; Parson initially describes her as a "cold fish". She loosens up a bit when Parson is demoted and interacts with her on a more social rather than hierarchical basis.

Maggie was part of a group of three [[link]]ed casters, along with a [[Foolamancer]] ([[Jack Snipe]]) and a [[Lookamancer]] ([[Misty]]). This combination was used by Stanley as a command-and-control center: the Lookamancer determined the identities and positions of units on the battlefield, the Foolamancer presented this information in a readily understood display and the Thinkamancer relayed reports and orders.
Maggie also provided the necessary magic for the set-up; only a Thinkamancer can establish a link between casters.

==Plot==

After Stanley the Tool ordered the breaking of the link, only Maggie left the set-up without damage. It is heavily implied that she shielded herself from the 'whiplash' of breaking it causing the damage to be reflected at the other two casters. This resulted in Misty's death and a bout of insanity for [[Jack Snipe|Jack]] who continues to suffer from mild mental problems.

Since then she has served Parson as adviser and as an instrument in a lot of his plans (i.e. calling Charlie and the [[Royal Crown Coalition|coalition]] leaders).

She was also part of the the short-lived tri-mancer link involved in the [[Volcano Uncroaking]]{{erf|1|135}}.

==Description==

Maggie provided [[Parson Gotti|Parson]] with a lot of useful information about Thinkamancy. When she is being didactic, as in [[First_Intermission_29]], Parson sees her manner as resembling [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catwoman Catwoman]. Their working relationship progresses eventually, and she grows to develop such respect for his abilities that she questions Stanley's decision to replace Parson as chief warlord of Gobwin Knob.

She finds a kindred spirit in [[Sizemore]] after the volcano link, and the two appear to have become quite friendly with each other.

There are some indications that Maggie may have some romantic feelings toward Parson as well.

==Real World References==

Maggie is most likely a reference to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Thatcher Margaret Thatcher], to whom she bears some resemblance.

Her outfit, specifically the black blazer with white piping, is also surprisingly reminiscent of Number 6 from [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoner The Prisoner] - a rebellious former spy who refuses to bend to his captors' mind control techniques. (Given that this is a puzzling association for Maggie's character, this resemblance may be unintentional, or hint at an unrevealed backstory.) Maggie is one of the few Gobwin Knob units who does not wear medieval-inspired clothing.
==Unaroyal/Hobbittm==
I asked Rob through private mail on the forums and here is what he replied:<br>
<code>Scarlet (though that is not really her name) is Unaroyal. Maya (same deal) is Hobbitm. There is a reason for that, which does make sense, but it would spoil a joke later. I can't be much more specific than that, but blue = Hobbitm and red = Unaroyal.</code><br>
You've edited the pages to make it appear that the resolution you agree with has been accepted. Are we done with accepting other people's positions entirely? Are you trying to start an "Undo" war?--[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 18:40, 17 July 2009 (UTC)<br>
Ahem...<br>
"However, Warlord is a specific term for leaders with the [[Leadership]] ability. [[Commander]] is a more general term, and also encompasses [[Caster]]s, who do not have Leadership.{{erf|1|084a|Parson's Klog #10}} Both Casters{{erf|1|017}} and Warlords{{erf|1|007}} can be and have been called "Commander," even insisting on it,{{erf|1|083}} while both have also been referred to with their more specific terms. (Incidentally, [[Wanda Firebaugh]] was once referred to as "officer,"{{erf|1|005}}, which we can only assume is a rarely-used synonym.)"<br>
You declared victory on Warlord, not Commander. Have you no objectivity at all, Noah? Did you think I wouldn't notice? You only moved the argument to Warlord and failed to present anyone else's perspectives on the subject. We have to work together, but something like this, while we are discussing an issue? Objectivity means representing everyone, Noah. Did you do that today? --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 22:35, 17 July 2009 (UTC)<br>
Do I need to respond to your last message on my page? Do you still not understand the issue? --[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 19:37, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
==PLAY FAIR==
Look, don't characterize other people's arguments in the Wiki. That's just flat out rude. When you argue about the argument it's opinion and just not helpful to anyone, and can only lead to what I've done -- completely undone most of what you wrote. Do you really not get that this is a place where we all have to play fair? What you write, I can unwrite. Readers can decide if my arguments are marginal without your claims to that effect. If they are, they'll realize it, so you don't need to say it. If they aren't, then you don't deserve the air time.

Compromise, Noah. This place must be a place of compromise. I gave all three Disciplines equal time and presence. Could you have done that? No, you couldn't because you've been undermining it since I did it, trying to advance the Carnymancy case by tearing down everything else. I started in the middle ground: that should have been obvious from the start. If I was being unobjective, Shockmancy would have better arguments and I would have undermined everything else: I didn't. No one has unwritten anything that I wrote about any of those subjects: I did a good job of representing the ideas of my opponents, didn't I? But here I am unwriting vast tracts of your work as prejudicial and argumentative. Your goal is to try to ensure only your idea wins, but that is not what this Wiki can ever be about. It is about all ideas.

I will not negotiate any other position, because this is the only position we can end in. Stop trying to undermine your opponents. It's only bringing the battle from the forum to the Wiki. Keep the arguing off the Wiki: it is supposed to be a place of information, not bickering.

(BTW, Magicians are Hat Magic, not Carnymancy. I shifted the flight argument to trapeze acts which fit the carnival motife better. [u]That's[/u] objectivity. Are [u]you[/u] capable of improving an opponent's argument?)<br>
--[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 03:54, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

1) I put Shockmancy first, because the last two times I was involved with my own theories, I put my own theories last. (Disbanding and some other page.) Sometimes I get first crack, too. It's not unobjective to give yourself first read once in a while.
2) Your objections about objectivity are from the Forum, not the Wiki. As I pointed out on the forum, I am using different rules here.
3) Carnymancy.
I want you to take a step back and think for a moment. Is there any spell or effect that you can't come up with a theory of how it fits into Carnymancy? Uncroaked? Voodoo priestesses and horror shows. Golems? Dr. Frankenstein-like stage plays. You've given Carnymancy such a broad scope, that quite literally every single spell or effect can fall under its umbrella, including those that we know are other Disciplines. Just step back a moment and try. I realized this last night. It's so broad that it quite literally now includes all magic... all you have to be is creative enough.
--[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 03:46, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Hypocrite? When? Playing favorites? No, I have always been fair, going so far sometimes as even counting sentences to ensure equal play time. Do I constantly harp on my pet peeve? No, I haven't added a single positive article to Shockmancy since the rewrite. I have only added negatives to counter the positives you have added, and annihilated prejudicial arguments. Last night you decided to arbitrarily remove a paragraph I wrote that others had atually approved and added to: so when you changed it to your version, I put it back to what I liked, which others happened to like, too. I just didn't mention that last little fact.

So, no, I will not accept the accusation of hypocrisy. I have tried to do everything I can to ensure that the playing field remains entirely balanced, regardless f my own beliefs, and that no speculation gets an inherent advantage thanks to prejudicial language or technique.

You are simply incapable of third person objectivity. I'm not about to accept any judgment you make of me. You have demonstrated a complete lack of even understanding of the concept of objectivity since you started, so how could you ever accurately judge anyone else?<br>
--[[User:Kreistor|Kreistor]] 13:48, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Hey, looky there. You "undid" my restoration of the previous argument. I know you agree with it: you wrote your own version, but in your petulent fury, you removed a truthful argument. Oh, I'm sure you've convinced yourself it's false in some way, now, but all that demonstrates is that your emotions are slipping into your thought processes, and corrupting your analysis. And that's why you aren't objective. So long as your emotions dictate your choices, logic and reason take a backseat to your desire.

Someday you might learn how to detach your ego from your ideas. But that's not today.
==Regent==
Hi just a question on the [[Regent]] page. Was the post of Regent Warlord pure speculation, or is there some indication within the comic? The [[User_talk:Miment|issue]] arose if Parson is now "Regent" (or maybe Regent Warlord) of the city of Gobwin Knob, since he was appointed to manage the city. --[[User:Raphfrk|Raphfrk]] 21:21, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
==Footnotes on annotation pages==
Hi, I'm new here, and I noticed you added a footnote on [[TBFGK 59]] for panel 2. When you edit the appropriate text, it puts the <nowiki>{{ref}}</nowiki> on both the page-by-page annotation [[TBFGK 59]] and the panel-by-panel annotation [[TBFGK 59:2]]. But the <nowiki>{{note}}</nowiki> doesn't get duplicated. This means that people browsing panel-by-panel get a footnote marker that doesn't go anywhere.

The way that I know works is to add the same <nowiki>{{note}}</nowiki> to both annotation pages [[TBFGK 59]] and [[TBFGK 59:2]]. I don't know if this can be automated; it's a pain in the absence of automation, which I don't know how to do. But if it's not too much work, it will make the Annotation pages less confusing for readers.

Or if you know of another way of preventing dead footnotes, I'm all ears!&ndash;[[User:Dan Hoey|Dan Hoey]][[User_talk:Dan Hoey|talk]] 03:25, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
'''Turns since TBfGK: 3'''

[[Transylvito]] was a [[city]] that looked like you didn't want to mess with it. That's what [[Vinny Doombats|Vinny]] loved about it. Even though he'd popped way out in [[Duckula]], and it was 200 turns before he'd ever seen his [[capital]], this city was home. The black walls, marble columns and iron towers reached right up out of the black-streaked granite of the imposing [[Mount Mofo]]. Everywhere you looked, there was something sharp, something hard, something that could croak you. Just beautiful.

The stack swept in from the south, hugging the [[Terrain Type|mountaintop]] and approaching the city along the old aqueduct trail. Non-fliers could only reach the city by this trail, and the [[move]] penalty was murder. Low-move units (like, say, most [[siege engine]]s) might need three or even four turns just to climb the mountain. The capital had not been seriously assaulted by ground in thousands of [[turn]]s.

So the defenses were mainly towers, oriented for airspace fights. The [[City#Known City Zones|outer walls]] were almost ornamental, and would barely inconvenience an attacking infantry, a fact which technically made the city a Level 4. But the [[City_Zones#Garrison|garrison]] zone was bigger and taller than some whole Level Fives, with their walls and all.

Besides [[Warlord]]s, [[Caster]]s, [[Doombat]]s and a few [[Men]], the city was mainly defended by [[Doll]]s, [[Moll]]s, Guard [[Goyles]] and Skanks.{{ref|ThisDegradesWomen}} The Dolls and Molls were animated mannequins and statues, used as much for decoration as defense. The Goyles were flying infantry units with some natural casting abilities, like [[Archon]]s. And like Archons, they were nearly all female. The Skanks were simply elite, [[knight]]-class Goyles.

As they crossed into the city's [[city#Known City Zones|airspace]], an honor guard of Skanks rose up to greet them, in full warpaint and body glitter. They wore little black dresses, cut low in the back to reveal their distinctive antler emblems.{{ref|LowerBackTattoo}} Crying "woo!" and "partay!" they swarmed the stack in twos and threes, putting glowing necklaces around the warlords' necks, and offering small cups of flavored gelatin without even using their hands.{{ref|JelloShots}}

With two of them clinging to Vinny's arms, declaring him "so hot" and themselves "so wasted," he suddenly thought about how close he'd come to never seeing this place again. To his surprise, he started getting a little choked up about it.

But then, he glanced back at [[Jillian Zamussels|Zamussels]]. Both her blades were drawn, and spattered with glowing necklace goo. She was using them to hold two confused Skanks at bay. She met his gaze, and if looks were battle-axes, she would have just split his face.

He laughed, grinned at her, and held up a red cup full of cool, flavored wine.

"'S good ta come home!" he shouted. The Skanks wooed again.

===Notes===
#{{note|ThisDegradesWomen}}"Dolls", "Molls", and "Goyles" (a mispronunciation of "Girls") refer to prostitutes in service to organized crime bosses. Fate is one of the three axes of [[magic]] (along with [[Erf]] and [[Numbers]]) used to break a major class of magic into three different disciplines. {{Erf|1|038a}} Some [[Erfworld]]ers also use the term "Fate" to refer to the predetermined destiny of an individual or group, as if it was a magical [[Stats|Stat]].

*Attunement to [[Arkentool]]s is governed by Fate [[magic]].{{erf|1|022}}

=Speculation=
Fate views or changes the purpose or destiny of whatever it deals with. For items, that is what it does. Turnamancy can take an existing object and make it work itself (adding Motion), but to take something and give it a purpose beyond what it has innately takes Dollamancy. When one form of regular Stuff is changed into another by a Changeamancer, it’s Matter and Fate. Healomancers directly modify the Fate of whatever they cast on. Fate Magic is more subtle than Erf magic, but less so than Numbers. Erf Magic has an effect that is immediate. Fate Magic tends to be more long-lasting. Changing the nature, purpose or direction of an object is a profound thing and that’s what Fate does.

The Axis of Fate seems to focus on an active target's status. For instance, [[Croakamancy]] can return a character from [[croaked]] to [[uncroaked]]. [[Dollamancy]] (and by proxy [[fabrication]]) specializes in the creation or re-configuration of a base material into non-living items like [[raiment]], [[golems]] and small, non-magical items. Presumably, [[Healomancy]] restores hit points and removes other status effects. And [[Thinkamancy]] has been shown to alter loyalty scores. [[Predictamancy]] can determine a target's future state - alive, dead, carrying around an [[Arkentool]].

=Natural Fate=
[[Loyalty]] may be considered a form of natural Fate magic, in that being loyal to a side is aligning ones fate with it. This is probably, as Loyalty and Duty are described as natural Thinkamancy.

=Speculation=
==Element Description==
Where Erf deals with the natural functions of the world and Fate deals with the direction it is headed, Numbers is the hard stuff, the nitty-gritty mechanical action of the world. Where magic on the Erf axis moves in broad strokes, Numbers is where the fine control comes in. It doesn’t directly create, and it doesn’t directly destroy. Everything in the Numbers axis is about manipulation and modification of existing elements. The Mathamancer-Luckamancer relies on the Numbers axis to see the fine details of what is, and then the Erf axis switches the broad strokes of who is assigned to what. Moneymancy is Numbers all on its own. Money is completely imaginary. It exists as a way of keeping track of an intangible that has been quantified. This makes it perfect for Clevermancy, which modifies the things of the axis itself without any elements. The most powerful of the ‘mancies, Retconjuration, is Motion and Matter x Numbers, changing the action and value of the bookkeeping behind the world.

Numbers Magic appears to be tied up in altering probabilities in a situation. Veiling in Foolamancy works towards a single probable outcome (deception). Mathamancy can calculate (but not affect) the odds for all possible outcomes. Use of Moneymancy alters the odds in a conflict between sides by shifting the balance of power beforehand (but not during). Numbers Magics work indirectly towards a specific resolution, as opposed to the more linearly acting Fate and Erf Magics.

Numbers magic also appears to affect the behind-the-scenes game mechanics in ways not obvious to erfers. To render a sword blow ineffective, a erf-axis spell might change the sword into jello. A fate-axis spell might make the wielder of the weapon suddenly unable to use it. A numbers-axis spell, on the other hand, might cause the sword to do no damage for no obvious reason at all.

Not much is known about Numbers, except that:

Dittomancy can double combat bonuses and the number of surviving units.

Foolamancy may be used to 'veil' units, cities, etc., which can prevent others from knowing the number of enemies they face.

Mathamancy may be used to calculate odds.

Moneymancy is involved in unit production for natural allies.

Date-a-mancy is used to describe relationships. One is the loneliest number.

May have more to do with upkeep and 'passive' uses. Moneymancy to create units and so on, rather than actually be offensive. Foolamancy was used to shroud Stanley the Tool, and to hide the cities in Faq from prying eyes.

Erf, possibly derived from the word "Earth", tends to deal with the physical, tangible, and practical. [[Findamancy]] locates a [[unit]], object, or location that exists. [[Turnamancy]] affects a unit's [[Loyalty]], the timing of a [[Side]]'s [[Turn]] or a [[city]]'s [[unit]] production. [[Dirtamancy]] creates and heals [[golem]]s from available material, and can move and restructure the Erf itself. [[Lookamancy]] allows you to see a distant location as it is at that moment. [[Flower Power]] and [[Shockmancy]] have direct effects on units. [[Hat Magic]] creates magic [[Magic_Item#Message_Hats|hats]] and transports physical matter. Least clearly physical is [[Luckamancy]], which seems to directly affect reality.

Erf is the practical things of the world, not only the physical, but some of the intangibles as well. It seems that a lot of the “Natural” magics can be manipulated by magics in the Erf axis. Loyalty is Natural Thinkamancy, but it can be altered by Turnamancy as well. Turn order also falls under the Erf axis in Turnamancy. Luckamancy works with Numbers, but it merely rearranges them to change results, it doesn’t actually modify the numbers. Hat Magic has a little bit of everything, but it all appears to be very practical: sending messages, creating items and creatures (e.g. Bun Bun). Everything in the Erf axis deals in broad strokes. Erf magic is not subtle in its effects, even if the consequences of those effects are a little more so. Shockamancy is the premier example of this. It takes Matter and Motion and uses it to destroy, ripping apart what is there as it damages and stuns with overt blasts of magic.

==Speculation on Erf in Magic==
[[Fate]] controls the paths of [[unit]]s and [[side]]s. [[Numbers]] deals in likelihoods and abstracts. [[Erf]] is the world around you, the terrain, reality itself. Looking at each possibility of Erf + Life + Motion + Matter

'''Luckamancy''' - Erf alone. Devoid of the influences of Fate and Numbers (Predictamancy and Mathamancy), untied to Life, Motion, or Matter (which seek to change or control), luckamancy is free to do the impossible. Or not.

'''Findamancy''' - [[Erf]] and [[Life]] (no [[Motion]] and no [[Matter]]) - Finding life on erf.

'''Turnamancy''' - [[Erf]] and [[Motion]] (no [[Life]] and no [[Matter]]) - as the Erf turns... erm, change in the erf? Moving people from place to place? Supports out-of-turn movement more than double-dealing, I guess...

'''Dirtamancy''' - [[Erf]] and [[Matter]] (no [[Life]] and no [[Motion]]) - Manipulating the physical matter of Erf itself.

'''Lookamancy''' - Erf, Life, and Motion (no [[Matter]])- Watching the motion of life on erf. Observing its changes.

'''Flower Power''' - Erf, Life, and Matter (no [[Motion]])- Maintaining life, preserving matter... the absence of motion. No change. Flaking. Time standing still.

'''Shockmancy''' - Erf, Motion, and Matter (no [[Life]]) - Change or movement of matter, absence of Life. Shock and awe.

'''Hat Magic''' - Erf, Life, Motion, and Matter - Transmission of matter and knowledge (life) across the erf.
===Element Summary===
Where Life is vital and evolving and Matter deals with innate properties, Motion is just what it says on the tin. It is the element of change, of movement alone. When used alone on the Fate axis, it allows for items to be imbued with a purpose: it allows for Stuff to be greater than the sum of its parts. If Matter is added, people can be torn apart, their lifeless bodies given new purpose or the very events of the world can be rewritten. Alone with Numbers, it can change one property of an object into another. On the Erf axis, it moves in broad strokes, making items work themselves, moving a unit from one Side to another, even moving time itself via Turn order.

'''Motion''' may refer to change, with the impact that:

[[Turnamancy]] changes [[turn]] order or duration, [[unit]] (or [[city]]) production rate, and [[side]] [[loyalty]];

[[Dollamancy]] changes [[Loyalty]] (through raiments), creates items that change stats, and changes inanimate materials into living units.

[[Foolamancy]] changes perceived [[unit]] information and [[Stats]],

[[Thinkamancy]] changes unit loyalty and knowledge,

[[Lookamancy]] changes knowledge of [[hex]] location,

[[Shockamancy]] changes [[unit]] [[hits]],

[[Croakamancy]] changes [[croaked]] [[unit]]s back into active ones, and

[[Retconjuration]] changes the rules themselves.

== Proposed Canon ==
==Speculation==
===Element Summary===
The axis of Matter deals with the reality of a thing. When used alone, it affects the Stuff of Erf itself: shaping it on the Erf axis, changing it on the Fate axis and duplicating it on the Numbers axis. When added to Life, it can reveal and modify the way that units interact with the world. Flower Power shapes the way life interacts with non-life, growing plants and preventing Stuff from harming Life. Signamancy changes the Fate of life by modifying the way it looks, and thus the way it is. On the Numbers axis, Life and Matter show how well things interact, allowing for optimum paring.

It is not clear if there is an equivalent equation to the [[Real World]] E = M * c * c to convert between Energy and Matter.
In fact, since [[Erfworld]] has three elements, that there is a more complex equation.

'''Life''' is one of the three [[Magic_Elements|Elements]] of [[Magic]], along with [[Motion]] and [[Matter]]

{{Template:Magic_Elements_Chart/Life}}

It is the sole influence of [[Hocus Pocus]] magic, and also influences [[Eyemancy]], [[Hippiemancy]], and [[Stagemancy]].

== Proposed Canon ==

==Speculation==
===Element summary===
The Life element probably refers to units, specifically allowing units to interact with their axis. It is also possible that [[Life]] refers to a [[City]] or a [[Tribe]].

Of the three Elements, Life is the hardest to define. Whereas Fate deals with in the long view of the object’s story, Life deals with the here and now. What is happening in that object’s story right at this moment. Fate magic reads the objects biography, whereas Life is more like a journal. Findamancy, tells where an object is on its particular Axis. Eyemancy allows for Motion to be added or modified in that object’s current state. Hippiemancy deals with what the nature of an object is. Stageamancy is the catch-all, allowing for multiple elements to interact and be rearranged. Life is current, always moving and changing, alive.

===Disciplines===
[[Findamancy]] - [[Erf]] and '''Life''' (no Motion and no Matter)
: allows its [[caster]] to perceive locations on Erfworld, and find objects with relation to [[Erf]];

[[Predictamancy]] - [[Fate]] and '''Life''' (no Motion and no Matter)
: allows its [[caster]] to understand the future of a [[unit]], [[city]], [[item]] with relation to [[Fate]],

[[Mathamancy]] - [[Numbers]] and '''Life''' (no Motion and no Matter)
: gives its [[caster]] the ability to directly interact with [[numbers]] associated with a unit, city, location, or item.

[[Lookamancy]]
: changes a [[unit]]s perception of [[Erf]]

[[Thinkamancy]] -
: changes a units [[Fate]], through changing their beliefs and knowledge;

[[Foolamancy]] - [[Erf]] and [[Life]] and [[Motion]] (no [[Matter]])
: uses [[Motion]] to change the perceived [[numbers]] of a unit, with the [[Life]] being the unit in question;
==Caster Creation==
''Casters'' are created in the same way as [[warlords]]; when a [[Side]] [[pop]]s a warlord, there is a chance it will get a caster instead. The Side also does not get to choose the type of caster it receives. Some [[Erf]] culture appears to hold that the [[Titans]] decide when a Side will pop casters, or that the need of the Ruler influences what is popped. There is no way to intentionally pop a caster.
== Known Casters ==
{{:Known casters}}

=Proposed Canon=
Casters are [[unit]]s that can use [[scroll]]s and cast [[spell]]s. While certain [[unit]]s can use [[spell]]s or spell-like abilities (e.g. [[Archons]]), Casters are the only units in [[Erfworld]] that can learn and cast [[spell]]s beyond their unit's specific ability or spell set. Casters are further defined as being [[Commander]]s and being able to form [[caster link]]s. Casters are called by their class or discipline, so a caster who casts from [[Lookamancy]] is called a Lookamancer, and a caster who does general [[Hippiemancy]] would be called a Hippiemancer.

==Using Magic==
Every caster belongs to a [[magic|magical]] discipline (e.g. [[thinkamancy]] or [[croakamancy]]) and can cast spells from that discipline. Some casters are only good at casting spells belonging to their discipline, while other casters are good at casting spells from multiple disciplines.{{erf|1|013}} Multi-discipline casters are uncommon and there may be limits on what spells they can cast and how successful those spells are.

Casting spells uses a caster's [[juice]]{{erf|1|104}} so there is a limit on the amount of magic a caster can perform during one turn {{erf|1|090}}. Casters can extend this limit by creating and using [[scroll]]s. Scrolls increase the versitility of casters by allowing them to cast spells they don't know or spells that are part of a discipline they can't otherwise cast from.{{erf|1|126}}.

==Commander==
Like [[Warlord]]s, Casters are [[commander]]s and can lead [[units]] in combat. {{erf|1|084a|Parson's Klog #10}} However, they almost never do so since they are too rare and valuable to risk. Moreover, they do not have the [[Leadership]] ability and do not grant a [[Leadership]] [[Combat#Combat_Bonuses|bonus]] to units under their direct command. Some casters can grant a special bonus to particular units, presumably limited to those directly tied to their magical specialty. For example, Dirtamancers provide bonuses to [[golems]] under their command, and Croakamancers provide bonuses to [[uncroaked]] units.{{erf|1|084a|Parson's Klog #10}}

In some situations, casters can also grant abilities to units under their command. For example, a Croakamancer can grant the [[Dance-Fighting]] special ability to [[Uncroaked]] units under its command. {{erf|1|127}} The Caster would likely need to possess the dance-fighting ability on their own to be able to bestow it to other units.

==Caster Links==
''Main Article: [[caster link]]''

A Thinkamancer can join one or two other casters together into a [[caster link]] allowing those casters to cast powerful spells, multi-discipline spells, or create multi-discipline [[Magic_Item|magical items]] or scrolls. The most powerful spells and items (apart from those created and used by [[Titans]]) are created by linked casters.

==Magic Kingdom==
''Main Article: [[Magic Kingdom]]''

The [[Magic Kingdom]] is an island that can only be entered by casters through [[portal]]s in [[Erfworld]] [[city|cities]]. Communities of [[barbarian]] casters live here, and the island is divided into eight sections, one for each class of magic. Casters of the various disciplines co-mingle freely, including those who are members of different [[side]]s, who may enter and leave through [[Portal Park]] to socialize or deal with other casters for their [[Ruler]]s.

As barbarians, Casters from the Magic Kingdom may be hired as mercenaries, for use by the hiring [[Side]], as [[Faq]] did with [[Vanna]].

Casters can receive orders from Warlords and Rulers while the caster is in the Magic Kingdom.

==Croaked Casters==
Once a caster is croaked they may be uncroaked. An uncroaked caster does not retain spellcasting abilities and functions as generic uncroaked infantry.{{Erf|1|077a|Uncroaked casters just function as infantry}}

It is currently unknown if casters can still cast after being [[decrypted]]. This, among other reasons, led Stanley to deny Wanda from attempting to croak [[Jack Snipe]] and decrypt him instead of healing him{{erf|2|11|6}} (supposedly because the healing scrolls were getting harder to come by, probably due to resistance from [[Healomancy|Healomancers]] in the [[Magic Kingdom]]).

=Speculation=

==Caster Creation==

Casters are extremely rare, largely because they cannot be popped intentionally.

After a side pops its first caster, popping another caster becomes much more unlikely.

Many sides seem to have [[Thinkamancer]]s (at least three among the combatants of the [[Battle for Gobwin Knob]]). They may be more commonly popped than members of other Disciplines. Conversely, even in the Magic Kingdom, [[Dirtamancer]]s are apparently rare and in demand.

Some additional possibilities on how casters' numbers might be restricted:

* As a side has existed for more turns, the chance of popping a caster decreases.
* Each time a side pops a caster, the chances of popping another decreases.
* There is a limit on the number of casters in the world (could be based on each type)
** The odds of a caster popping decreases as the number of casters in the world increases
** There is a hard limit on the number of casters in the world
** It may be that sides are limited to a maximum number of casters. For example, three or fewer, with it being rare but possible to pop up to three casters. Capture, however, would be more beneficial since it allows for more than the minimum number and it means the casters may have already leveled.

==Casters, Sides, and the Magic Kingdom==

The [[Magic Kingdom]] is a special location that only casters can enter. Casters from active sides can enter and exit the Magic Kingdom via portals. However, some casters in the Magic Kingdom do not belong to sides on Erfworld. The number of casters in the Magic Kingdom may, at any given time, outnumber those elsewhere on Erfworld.

==Caster levelling==
Leveling for casters may work differently then for other [[unit]]s. If casters need to kill enemy units to gain [[experience]] then leveling could be very difficult due to the fact that casters tend to be kept in [[capital]] cities. Some types, such as [[florist]]s, might not even possess any magical means to [[croak]] another unit. Note that in Book Two, Text Update 45, Sizemore says that he has gained three levels recently, two from croaking units ("from traps and combat") and one from other activities ("from all of the city rebuilding"). So it seems canon that not all caster leveling comes from croaking units.

Caster levels are often refered to as their [[class]], often before the type of caster: [[novice-class]], [[adept-class]], or [[master-class]]. This class may also determine what ability a caster has at casting spells outside their discipline. A master-class caster may be able to cast spells that are not their forte with greater ease. An example is Wanda who is a Master-Class Croakamancer but claims to be able to cast other spells with ease (though she has little interest in doing so), whereas the two other casters most commonly seen ([[Maggie]] and [[Sizemore]]) either cannot or do not cast outside of their discipline. It is known Maggie is only an adept-class, but Sizemore's class is unknown. Given his power compared to Wanda's, as well as his expectation that he could reach master class prowess soon[[LIAB Text 45]], it seems likely that he is only an Adept at the middle of Book Two. If so, this would offer an explanation as to his self-professed lack of talent in other disciplines. He is heading toward Mastery of Dirtamancy after the Tri-caster link, but hasn't reached it yet.

It is possible that casters gain experience by using magic or by simply participating in a battle in any way.
A question I wanted to pose. I was thinking that images in some of the wikis here would be nice; not so much that they are strictly necessary (it's horribly unlikely that someone would see a wiki here before the relevant entry in the comic itself), but it strikes me that they would be beneficial in a few places. But obviously it's not my or any of our art, and regardless that you maintain/gain the rights of anything entered here, I figured this was a question better asked before rather than after. Oh, and I honestly haven't even checked to see if file uploads are an activated feature here yet, but who fusses over the little details like that? :P --[[User:OniExpress|OniExpress]] 01:34, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah Images are awesome and anything is fair game. I'm even going so far as to say I'm not going to question the use of copyrighted images we don't own until the owner objects to their use here, for now. ==Canon, proposed canon and speculation==
Hi Rob! Several questions here:
*You created a page for [[Croaking]]. Can we automatically consider the text that you wrote a [[Canon]] since it is the "Word of God"?
*You have written quite a lot of information on the [http://www.giantitp.com/forums/ GitP forums]. I see it as pretty valuable for readers since it is the "Word of God", basically. I do not know about Rich's plans about the Erfworld forum on the GitP forums, but I assume there is a chance it might not last. Can we save your messages in some form in this Wiki, for example as [[Word of God]] article with references to the GitP forum posts? I guess it would make it possible to refer to it as to.. well, the Word of God. What do you think?
*<s>There is some information on this Wiki that is taken right from the comic (for example, magic disciplines in [[Magic]]). Would that be Speculation or Proposed Canon? Can unambiguous information with references to comic strips (like [[Caesar Borgata]] is [[Chief Warlord]] to [[Transylvito]][http://www.giantitp.com/comics/erf0125.html]) be considered Proposed Canon?</s><br>
Thank you! -- [[User:Muzzafar|Muzzafar]] 14:07, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey Rob,
I'm not sure about what type(s) the [[Parsons_Plans|Parson's plans]] article and related articles should be. They're unlikely to directly become canon, or proposed canon, but are mostly different from pure speculation, as the links can be fairly obvious but not completely spelled out by the comic/word of God.
What is the right name? -- [[User:Muzzafar|Muzzafar]] 08:01, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Could you add the ParserFunctions extension to the wiki? It adds a lost more versatility when creating templates and might allow us to write a couple fairly powerful templates we've been thinking of. ==Fan Created Stuff==
Rob, could you please add a section to the main page concerning people adding fan-created pages.
Someone added [[Feildebeat|these]] [[Boogiemen|ones]], so for now I added <nowiki>[[Category:Fan Created]]</nowiki> it, and added "Fan " in front of the categories. --[[User:Doran|Doran]] 00:24, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
:As per discussion with the Balder, I've expanded on your work, Doran. There are now three classes of fan material, with catchy names. [[ErfWiki:Fanon|Fanon]], [[ErfWiki:Banon|Banon]], and the intermediate [[ErfWiki:Forked Fanon|'forked up' fanon]]. Hope I got those more or less right, Rob; it's late so I may have jumbled something. --> '''[[User:Erk|ERK!]]'''|[[User_talk:Erk|eyeBook me]] 04:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
== Actual Game ==

Let me preface this by saying that I know that the comic and the game are separate. You are aiming to tell a story and its a darn good one so far.

However, as an avid gamer and amateur game designer, I can't help but notice there's a very compelling and rather robust system behind the story. I also see that you're a game designer by trade. I was wondering... Are there were plans to take the Erfworld setting/system and turn it into an ACTUAL game? I know that I would buy it if it was. I'm certain others would as well.

Just curious.
