Separating articles and/or article content into the (very much necessary) categories of canon, proposed canon, and speculation is going to be a chore. Marking them with three distinctive text colours would probably be a dumb idea. --130.232.134.69 13:45, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, if we had a larger user base on this wiki, it would be nice to do away with the edit links. But we don't. I agree with you now Raphfrk that the main page should be easy to edit. Edits on a whim are better than no edits at all. Miment 23:17, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

On May 19, a couple of attempts were made to add spam links to this page. If you detect such an attempt, do not try to fix the problem by editing the page. Go to the "History" page and use the "Undo" feature to remove the change. As a result of a couple of kind-hearted and well-meant repairs, two very important and LEGAL sections disappeared, probably because the repairs were made without noticing the spam deleted those sections. I have undone everything that occurred on the 19th, and restored it to the state of the previous day. --Kreistor 05:12, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Ok then, I've revised my plans and will impliment them. Where the featured Article goes, I'll put a list of maintainence tasks. This wiki is meant to keep track of information about Erfworld and things related to Erfworld.  It is the definitive source of canon, proposed canon, and speculation about the story, setting and mechanics of the Erfworld universe. Our operating principle is to "add useful information."  Even trivial and tangential information and topics that pass this usefulness test should be added.

This is a community project, by and for the readers, fans, and creators of Erfworld. All work on this wiki is considered a contribution, given freely in the spirit of a supportive, collaborative effort.  Anything you post or edit to this site may be used by yourself or others within the terms of a Creative Commons noncommercial license.  You also grant unlimited use of any work posted here to the creators of Erfworld, without claim to compensation or attribution.  Note that "use" means "we can use it" not "we own it."  If you post your own fan art of, say, Bogroll here, you still own it and can use it within the guidelines for fan art.  It's just that you also grant license to the community to use it noncommercially, and to the creators to use it in any way.

Rules
+
-
Articles which are not about the Erfworld universe will be a lot like articles in any other wiki.  For instance, the article on conventions can be an account of past and future conventions attended by Jamie and Rob, with no special rules other than to keep things reasonably factual and relevant. Do not use rules or policies from Wikipedia.  This is not an encyclopedia, but a Tool.
+
-

+
-
Articles about the Erfworld universe will have one to three sections: canon, proposed canon, and speculation.  An article may start out as speculation, but be elevated to proposed canon or canon over time.  For instance, say you are wondering about pink dwagons.  You have seen them in the comic, using a breath weapon that seems to work like bubble gum.  You create an article about pink dwagons with your guesses about the function of their breath weapon, and place all your information in a section labeled Speculation, or some of it in that section, and the parts you are pretty sure are close to the way it really works in Erfworld as Proposed Canon.  Rob, Jamie, or someone they appoint will take a look at the proposed canon and possibly elevate it to a section called Canon. Canon information can be generally relied on to reflect "the way things are in Erfworld, according to the creators."

You are welcome to add your own material to the Erfworld universe. Fan-created material that doesn't conflict with the Canon of Erfworld is called Fanon, and should be labeled as such, to make it clear that it's not part of the official Erfworld body. While there are no hard limits to what kind of Fanon you can make, be aware that the Terms of Use and Fan Creation Guidelines grant full and unlimited use of your ideas to the creators of Erfworld, and that other fans are free to edit anything you post.

I'm going to revert your changes to the main page where you added edit links the the various sections. There's a reason why I didn't include them in the original main page. It helps keep the page clean and prevents people from editing those sections on a whim. you should use the above template, mainpagecontrol, to edit the main page. Miment 18:16, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
I think that making it easier for people is better. The policy on the descriptive table of contents was to have [edit] links to allow people to change the pages. Otherwise, people have to search downwards through the templates. However, I do accept that making it a bit more effort to change the main page might be a good idea.
