The Tardy Elves have a (deserved) reputation for always arriving too late to seriously affect a battle. It is unclear whether this is some sort of natural, "genetic" aspect of their side, a drawback perhaps added to balance otherwise beneficial stats or bonuses, or a general strategy to always arrive too late to risk danger and just in time to split spoils.
Whichever it was, it was a boon in the Battle of Gobwin Knob, as a weapon of mass destruction completely wiped out the Coalition they would have been a part of.
