UPi, that's really fabulous looking!  It's probably worth mentioning that it's going to be quite difficult to port to Internet Explorer, though, even IE8.  IE doesn't support the canvas tag natively :-(  It's possible to use it through an external library, but last I heard it's quite slow.

Good work on the game, though!  I'm very impressed with things like the route planning, and it really does look just like Wesnoth, which is quite impressive in itself.

In trying to get the reflist template to work (aka, copy in the template code), I'm wondering if it's to do with this change to Common.css not having been done? Or am I missing something terribly simple? --OniExpress 04:31, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Using new-style references via <ref>, <references> and {{reflist}} requires Cite.php to be installed. Without it, your best bet is to convert the page to use the older Ref/Note system. Cheers! —RevenantTalk 12:01, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
So far we have been using a simple workaround: <sup>[http://www.google.com]</sup> displays [1]. It might not look as good as Wikipedia references, but at least it is easy to do plus it does the numbering automatically. If somebody comes with a better idea it would be nice. Images

A question I wanted to pose. I was thinking that images in some of the wikis here would be nice; not so much that they are strictly necessary (it's horribly unlikely that someone would see a wiki here before the relevant entry in the comic itself), but it strikes me that they would be beneficial in a few places. But obviously it's not my or any of our art, and regardless that you maintain/gain the rights of anything entered here, I figured this was a question better asked before rather than after. Oh, and I honestly haven't even checked to see if file uploads are an activated feature here yet, but who fusses over the little details like that? :P --OniExpress 01:34, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah Images are awesome and anything is fair game. I'm even going so far as to say I'm not going to question the use of copyrighted images we don't own until the owner objects to their use here, for now. That policy is subject to change. --Balder 06:32, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Canon, proposed canon and speculation

Hi Rob! Several questions here:

  • You created a page for Croaking. Can we automatically consider the text that you wrote a Canon since it is the "Word of God"?
  • You have written quite a lot of information on the GitP forums. I see it as pretty valuable for readers since it is the "Word of God", basically. I do not know about Rich's plans about the Erfworld forum on the GitP forums, but I assume there is a chance it might not last. Can we save your messages in some form in this Wiki, for example as Word of God article with references to the GitP forum posts? I guess it would make it possible to refer to it as to.. well, the Word of God. What do you think?
  • There is some information on this Wiki that is taken right from the comic (for example, magic disciplines in Magic). Would that be Speculation or Proposed Canon? Can unambiguous information with references to comic strips (like Caesar Borgata is Chief Warlord to Transylvito[2]) be considered Proposed Canon?

Hey Rob, I'm not sure about what type(s) the Parson's plans article and related articles should be. They're unlikely to directly become canon, or proposed canon, but are mostly different from pure speculation, as the links can be fairly obvious but not completely spelled out by the comic/word of God. Luckmancy vs Luckamancy

Hi Rob!
On one occasion this discipline of Magic is call Luckmancy (and apparently Luckmancers). On others it is LuckAmancy and Luckamancers. What is the right name? -- Muzzafar 08:01, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Luckamancy is right. Much like "Vinny" is right and I know at least one "Vinnie" got through lettering. We'll need some help rounding up all bloopers.

Plot Summary from Wikipedia

Hi Rob!
I think I managed to copy the current article + 2 earlier versions of the plot summary from the Wikipedia. I copied the text to this article. In the next few days I (and whoever willing to help) will try to merge the three versions. I suppose we can then copy the plot summary to a separate page.

Sure, though SteveMB wrote most of the knol. I should be doing more with that as well. We'll make it a priority after we launch and get the bugs out. But yes, I would like to see a very detailed plot summary, and eventually a wiki article annotating every page. There's enough to keep many people busy here for a long time! Fan Created Stuff

Rob, could you please add a section to the main page concerning people adding fan-created pages. Someone added these ones, so for now I added [[Category:Fan Created]] it, and added "Fan " in front of the categories. --Doran 00:24, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

As per discussion with the Balder, I've expanded on your work, Doran. There are now three classes of fan material, with catchy names. Fanon, Banon, and the intermediate 'forked up' fanon. Actual Game

Let me preface this by saying that I know that the comic and the game are separate. You are aiming to tell a story and its a darn good one so far.

However, as an avid gamer and amateur game designer, I can't help but notice there's a very compelling and rather robust system behind the story. I also see that you're a game designer by trade. I was wondering... Are there were plans to take the Erfworld setting/system and turn it into an ACTUAL game? I know that I would buy it if it was. I'm certain others would as well.

Just curious.

This wiki is going to be used to work out a final set of game mechanics and tables which is consistent with the comic, and internally logical as well. Then we can use that as the basis for several types of games, developed by third parties and/or fans, with my guidance. That's the theory, anyway. More direction on that coming in a little while. Online Game

Dear Rob and Jamie,

I recently started work on a strategy game that can be played online with a web browser. For now, this is a hobby project that I'm doing in my spare time to play with my friends.. The basic concept is that it will be turn-based BUT asynchronous. A turn will last a day, and players can log on any time during the day to move their units and order production. In fact, they can log on many times, if they want to order units that still have some moves left. In fact, it could be that two sides are moving their units around in the same minute...

The game code is in early stages at this time: it can render a map, shows some unit stacks, you can move them around and claim cities for your side, but that's about it. There's a minimap that can scroll the screen and shows cities and unit stacks. There's no movement limit, no turns, can't manipulate stacks, yet, etc. On the bright side, it's done in pure javascript without plugins like Java or Flash. :)

(The terrain and unit graphics are from "Battle for Wesnoth"; the cities are from an older game which is why they look so out of place...)

As you can see, this is a world without any actual mechanics at this time. The question is: would you be interested in creating an online Erfworld game that your readers could play on the erfworld website? I think the emerging Erfworld mechanics are great, it would be cool to do this project with this setting. If you aren't interested, I will just make up my own rules for the game. :)

Juuni Kokki

On an unrelated note: have you seen (or read) "12 Kingdoms" ("Juuni Kokki")? The story shares some of the basic concepts of Erfworld: a person (Parson :) from our contemporary reality gets swept away from his (or, in Juuni Kokki's case, her) ordinary life into another world. This world is significantly different from our own, for example, people are not gestate in a woman's womb (in JK they grow like fruit on special trees).

Also, this person finds himself/herself in the situation that he/she must now command an entire kingdom. However, he/she must first learn the rules and the logic of the new world, with the help of his/her advisors, not all of which wish him/her well. It takes plenty of trial and error before the true nature of the world is understood and the new ruler often feels out of place. In the end, he/she realizes that he/she was even MORE out of place in what he/she thought was the "real world".

This context, of course, if a great storytelling tool, as the audience of the story is introduced to the world's quirks and concepts gradually, learning them along with the story's main character, often left to wonder if how he would behave and react in a situation like this.
