I'd love to do more to combat spam, but all I can do as an admin is block bots and delete edits. Only User:Harknell can. You'd have the best chance of finding him on the Forum. If the situation doesn't get some attention, I'll PM Balder about it. Miment 04:32, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Just an update, I talked with Rob about it a bit on IRC. He knows, and he's telling Harknell.

Putting it in the talk page would be easier, yeah. Though really it doesn't matter. We only started doing things that way because anonymous editors don't have a user page. So the only place to put the category was in their talk.

If you want to clear the spammer category out of banned users, that's be fine with me.

Every page edit has (in the oft-ignored fine-print) "You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource (see ErfWiki:Copyrights for details)." Some manner of official Word-of-God legalese is clearly needed for stating overall copyright policies of the Wiki itself; it would seem to make sense for such a page to also discuss the underlying Erfworld copyright status and the extent that Creative Commons licensing applies. [edit] Cheerleaders and MediaWiki

The bots seem to generate random spelling mistakes for canned remarks, to make the remarks slightly less recognizable. Given there are 119 misspellings of any six-letter word, barring individual spelling mistakes seems epic-grade futile as an approach. There look to be perhaps a dozen or so (correctly spelled) underlying remarks. Blocking each expression as a whole with more complicated RegEXs should be possible, but I'm not sure the best way to go about that. Abb3w 01:16, 26 May 2011 (EDT)
