Wanda has made frequent costume changes throughout the series, and has in fact had more costumes than any other two characters combined. The only constant is the white-red-black color set, and her personal skull insignia.
Turn 1 and 2A Black, white, and red robe, with red pointed toed strapped boots, red bracers, and a white skull on a band in her hair.
Turn 3A small white leather bustier and leather pants with red laces. Red boots and white gloves. Worn at the beginning of a torture session with Jillian.
Turn 4A gray halter top and pants, worn while relaxing after a torture session with Jillian and again later with Parson in the library at night. It appears again on Turn 8, in the war council after RCC seizes the Outer Walls.
|
A white shirt and red tie, with black bodice and red pants. Red riding gloves. White cap with skull motif.
Turn 5A red and black backless dress that reveals ample cleavage.
|
Worn with the intent of fast removal, this is a short white robe with red blotches that intentionally resemble blood stains. On the left breast, the red blots form into a pink skull with red eyes (click on image for higher-resolution version which makes the pink skull much clearer). The robe is closed by a red sash.
Turn 6This Gi is worn during a philosophy lesson held by King Banhammer; also with the Predictamancer, and finally with Stanley after the fall of Faq. It is a simple, two-piece, greenish suit with a skull adornment in the hair.
|
Actually worn either early in the fighting with the RCC before the comic starts, or as far back as Faq's era, this is a white and red one piece, worn with thigh length red boots and a skull adornment in her hair.
Turn 7Initially, this outfit appears to merely be a black, hooded robe, but once the energies of her casting come into play, the robe flies back to become a cloak, revealing a Red and black one-piece. A skull-topped staff accessory completes the ensemble.
Turn 8For the Croakamancer on the go, this simple... cha right... Its red and black armor with a skulled helm and goat's head topped staff.
|
A homage to Michael Jackson in his Thriller video, this red and black suit is made for dancing.
Turn 9This ensemble appears after Wanda finds and attunes to the Arkenpliers. It is a black and red... Uhm... something. I really dunno what this is technically called. Oh, right, yes I do. It is BLATANT PANDERING. You may also notice the 'teeth' that would make her belly a 'mouth', much like some classic comic book and Anime villains.
Turn 13Wanda on her way to recapture Warchalking. Looks like red leather with black studs and a white skull highlight - with black skull helmet, pauldrons and bracers.
|
This is likely the same raiment - now drawn by Xin Ye - shown in a flashback. Complete with 'spikes of villainy'.
Turn 75Wanda's outfit at the Expository Bridge, intended for dance fighting. The "Bride of Frankenstein"-hair is actually a headgear. |
General themes and thoughts
- Classic evil overlord (red/black, spikes of villainy, decorative skull, the teeth-on-costume, etc)
- Undead related (micheal jackson zombies dancing, bride-of-Frankenstein hairstyle, skulls and representation thereof)
- 'Evil is sexy' trope.
- She is shown in flashbacks with livery (skull with a flower), themed after croakamancy obviously. The flower looks somewhat out of place, it gives a strange juxtaposition of either femininity or life against a looming symbol of death.
Real World References
- The teeth-on-costume relate to several tacky villains, one of them being from the 'Quest' series.
- Wanda's dance-fighting costume from Turn 8 is an homage to Michael Jackson in his Thriller video.
- Her hooded robe and skull-topped staff from Turn 7 may be a homage to Skeletor from Masters of the Universe. The flares on the shaft of the staff are strikingly similar to Skeletor's "Havoc Staff."
- Leading Gobwin Knob forces at the Expository Bridge, Wanda wears an outfit and hairstyle nearly identical to those the Rocky Horror Picture Show character Magenta wears in the final scenes.
